But 50k makes sense. If he doesn't fight he gets 50k for training and if he does fight he gets that plus his fight pay.

It depends on who he's replacing. If he's replacing Khabib then it doesn't really matter.

If he's replacing Conor, then yes, paying him too much to be on standby can be a problem.

I really do agree with you on this. Pay at least one appropriate and unbooked contender for the big fights to be ready. It doesn't have to be big money but if the UFC is being proactive then they should absolutely give him something for his trouble with the promise that he will be ready to show up on weight and in the cage for an big opportunity. I think it's good business and a win/win, and a drop in the bucket especialliy when you consider the numbers of a Mac/Khabib scale fight.
