Unpopular Opinion: Donnie Darko Sucked

Donnie Darko is a great film.

Kind of reminds me of It Comes at Night from last year. A critically lauded creepy post-apoc movie which seemed to have a story that went over most people's heads, but was subsequently determined to have been the director throwing shit at the screen hoping something stuck.

I enjoyed that too, though less when I realized I wasn't clever for "getting it" because there wasn't actually anything to get.

Unpopular opinion... Requeim for a Dream was terrible and people only claim it was good so as to tactfully watch a double dildo scene with someone who would otherwise scoff.

Donnie Darko is a classic.

Watched it again recently, in a packed local theater that was showing it. Held up great.

Requiem For A Dream is great too.

It's not for everyone. It requires multiple viewings and for the story to click with you. Most people don't have time for that. To me, it's really layered and I love it. It also captured the 80s perfectly.
