Tupac died 20 years ago today.

they gave brief mention to the whole pac era and his relationship with suge on that show the other night called "Facing Suge Knight" on NatGeo.
conspiracy theories abound, but I don't think Suge setting him up to be shot at the risk of taking peripheral damage is out of the question. Dude was whack.
came to rap music very late but pac is right up there. I also like too short, kurrupt, dj quik, eazy, nate dogg etc.

pretty clear tupac knew his time was limited, living that 'thug life'. lol whatevs, his moms got a lot of money from it, now she dead too, just last month.

He was a poet, you can find his poems if you google it.
You're a moron

The Rose that Grew From Concrete
Did you hear about the rose,
that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong,
it learned to walk without having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it's dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.

In the Depths of Solitude

I exist in the depths of solitude,
pondering my true goal.
Trying to find peace of mind
and still preserve my soul.
Constantly yearning to be accepted
and from all receive respect,
never comprising but sometimes risky
and that is my only regret.
A young heart with an old soul,
how can there be peace?
How can I be in the depths of solitude,
when there are two inside of me.
This duo within me causes
the perfect oppurtunity,
to learn and live twice as fast
as those who accept simplicity...

Can You See the Pride In the Panther
Can You See the Pride In the Panther
As he grows in splendor and grace
Toppling obstacles placed in the way,
of the progression of his race.

Can You See the Pride In the Panther
as she nurtures her young all alone
The seed must grow regardless
of the fact that it is planted in stone.

Can You See the Pride In the Panthers
as they unify as one.
The flower blooms with brilliance,
and outshines the rays of the sun.

AND 2MORROW
Today is filled with anger,
fueled with hidden hate,
scared of being outcast,
afraid of common fate.
Today is built on tragedies,
which no one wants to face,
nightmares to humanities,
and morally disgraced.
Tonight is filled with rage,
violence in the air,
children bred with ruthlessness because no one at home cares.
Tonight I lay my head down
but the pressure never stops,
gnawing at my sanity,
content when I am dropped.
But 2morrow, I see change,
a chance to build a new,
Built on spirit intent of Heart
and ideals based on truth.
And 2morrow I wake with second wind
and strong because of pride,
to know I fought with all my heart,
to keep my dream alive.

Yes, some rappers actually write poetry believe it or not.

That's cool. Yea he could write poetry. But rap itself isn't poetry. Too bad he couldn't stick with a real art like poetry instead of (c)rap.

Can OP or a MOD edit the Title to 21 years ago. RIP 2PAC.

Amazing how short the lives of Tupac and Biggie were. Was it worth it, guys?

Great artist but horrible example for young black kids. The entire hip hop culture drives the ridiculous behavior.

Yes, of course.

It's better to burn out than to fade away!

Nothing says thug life like being a back up dancer for digital underground.
Nothing says activist for women like being convicted of forcible anal rape.
Nothing says legacy like dieing young. Hence the love.
Great voice, hypocritical, great rhymes, the best double tracking not including the other millions of artists that had done it, ultimately a jerk off compared to rappers even of his own day.
A pre Kardashian. Biggie owned him. NAS and begrudgingly Jay Z wreck that clown. Anyone with a fake sense of hard loves tupac.
Suck it, I'll debate it all day.

He was NVR convicted of anal rape lol. He got in jail for touching her butt.

Exactly, look at the cultural icons we glorify. Most cult heroes have one thing in common. An early death at the height of their popularity. Biggie and Tupac are just like the others. They avoided playing themselves out.

Eventually star power fades. Using football as an example. Some go out gracefully (Jim Brown, Barry Sanders). Some try to hold onto every last bit of it and tarnish the legacy (OJ Simpson, Brett Favre).

Was listening to "shorty the pimp" yesterday at the gym. I like some old school too short.

I don't really consider myself a rap music fan but I love Tupac's music. So much of what I love about it is the music itself though, his vocals and rapping were good but the tunes/beats he had to work with were 5 star material that would have made pretty much any rapper sound good. I especially love the Me Against The World album, I'd even call it one of my favorite albums period of any genre.

Also noticed a trend any time the subject of Tupac comes up with someone under the age of 30 they always talk about how overrated he was and how he was not good. Compared to any other rapper I've ever heard I'd say Tupac was excellent and is actually underrated by these kids coming up these days who have no sense of context for anything released more than 5 days ago.

I like how anything that was ever any good gets labeled as overrated by the following generation, they don't even bother to try and understand the context, or possibly they're just not able. And to those pointing to the hypocrisy of some of his lyrics..lol if you're human you are also a hypocrite, we are not that simple and at different times get pulled in different directions..it's like a lot of younger people nowdays can only see and understand surface level shit, they can't dig into something and truly understand it, maybe it's our dwindling attention spans?

the guy didn't become "gangsta" till he was 19 and was a ballet dancer. 2pac is fake but his lyrics are real. still like his music.

Yes, of course.

I'm sure they were both thinking that as they both gasped their last breathes

Jesus Chris you sherdoggers think you have it all figured out and know everything

I caught some of Gridlock'd on cable the other day. Man is that an underrated 90s movie. He and Tim Roth are awesome in it. I just cite that one because Tupac was a quality actor and definitely could have made that transition in a way that a lot of music world stars could not.

It's a little known fact that Tupac's last words were "Tell Sherdog... I regret... nothing..."
