A new report shows that the number of illegal immigrants caught crossing the border has dropped by a stunning 93 percent since December.

According to new numbers provided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), around 16,000 people were apprehended illegally crossing the border in December, but only a little more than 1,100 were caught in March.

The point of the wall is to make a "lasting impression".

Border crossings might be down for now, but Trump won't be U.S. President forever. They may very well vote for another "softie" in 4 to 8 years, and that's when the wall will come to use. So that whatever happened throughout the 80's and the 90's and the 2000's, is never going to happen again.

The reason so many people come here illegally is because they know nothing will happen if they come illegally, not because the border isn't secure enough.

Everyone since Jimmy Carter was soft on immigration. Pretty much every main-line politician would prefer to "boost the economy" through illegal labour without doing anything about it, since their only objective is to increase America's GDP to make it a more profitable investment for their bosses. Everything else, such as the level of crime, incarceration, job insecurity, poverty for unemployed? Insignificant, to be addressed through a stronger, militarized police force and building more prisons.

Just wait until America gets another Bush/Clinton as a President. They won't give a damn. You'll be flooded again after the "bad cop" is gone. Turns out that he was the only cop who cared.

If we took other basic measures, we wouldn't need a wall to deter the vast majority of illegal immigration. But whether we take away the incentive for your average illegal to come here or not, we still don't want the border to be porous enough for actual criminals to come and go as they please. And that's the only way criminals can enter the country. And as already pointed out, since enforcement is dependent on the will of the administration at the time, a permanent barrier is still appealing.
