I don't consider that to be a laughing matter.

But at least at 51% that means that more than half of critics turned in a positive review.

I'm serious about Tomb Raider.

Goddamn, we've moved on from bad movie adaption of games to mediocre movie adaptions of games. Solid improvement. <mma4>

The second Alicia kicked Walton in the face in the clip shown during this interview, I was sold. No matter what the reviews say.

Teh wife has played the last two games on the PS4, i like the games and the movie looks like it's gonna follow the first game. So who knows, it might be alright.

I mean at 51 percent RT, it's almost assuredly in the running for GOAT video game adaptation.

Mortal Kombat still holds that in my opinion.

Think about that for a second. Mortal Kombat is the best video game adaptation...

Saw it tonight and enjoyed it

I'm going to echo Katsumi Yamada and give it a 7.5

Hope it does well because I would enjoy a sequel

Certainly entertaining and well done. My one complaint (and it's not much of one) is that it felt redundant of every other heroic cave adventurer movie we've ever seen. That said, the two scenes with Frost were quite funny, Goggins was a solid villain, the action scenes were good, the plot was tight, and Vikander was a good film hero.

Bring on the sequel. Surprised it's only tracking for 20 mill weekend though. Bad marketing or was Jolie the real operating factor in why the first one did so well.

You would think with all the "QUEEN" "Woman Rule" shit this would do a lot bigger than 20 million

Truth is people really don't give a shit about female characters unless they are in a comic book or Star Wars movie

Annihilation flopped hard and I enjoyed that movie, I just came back from seeing Tomb Raider and was pleasantly surprised. This movie was extremely respectful to the source material. Sadly it is going to flop too. I think at this point if it isn't a superhero film we can pretty much assume it is going to flop. People just save their money for the Marvel films and don't bother with anything else. It is sad.

I was surprised as well

I guess people got upset that it was just an action film and didn't really have any political bullshit in it

Same with Annihilation

Saw it tonight and thought it was okay.

I liked the opening introduction to Lara in the MMA gym and the "fox hunt." I thought all of that was done well. And I think that Vikander has charisma and brings to life an interesting version of Lara Croft, and it's obvious that despite everyone's concerns about her being "a 115 lb woman with no muscle" that she spent a lot of time getting in shape for the role.

The whole thing about the legend of Himiko was also interesting enough as the thing that propels the plot forward and there were some pretty decent action sequences throughout the film.

However, with all that said, I thought the whole thing felt a bit generic. It was almost like someone punched some parameters into an automated script writing program and this is what it spit out. I can just see someone checking the boxes for "Adventure," "Puzzles," "Ancient Relics" and "Action heroine" and then clicking GENERATE and this is what it came up with. It never really got me all that excited or invested in the characters or the plot, and I kind of felt like it was all rather joyless.

While watching the movie I couldn't help but compare it to the first film with Angelina Jolie. At the end of the day, I don't think either movie is great. But given the choice I would go with the Angelina film because her Lara Croft is the more likable of the two and overall I think that movie is just a more fun and enjoyable experience.

I don't want to sound like I'm too negative on this one. It's not that I outright disliked it; it's more that I just thought it was merely okay and was hoping for more. If they make a sequel I'll certainly go check it out.

Overall, I'd probably give this one a 6/10.

For anyone who's seen it:

Is it just me or is most of the movie just Lara trying to undo her own fuck up? She takes the papers which she was explicitly told to destroy to the Island, which ultimately leads to Goggins' character getting access to the tomb. Sure, she finds her father, but in the end she's unable to actually save him so the main thing she intended to do she actually fails at. On the plus side, the tomb is now destroyed so that threat is gone forever. But the thing is, it didn't look like Goggins and Co. would've ever found the tomb in the first place if she hadn't lead them there.
