I think it makes both outcomes more exciting. The hometown crowd either goes crazy or silent. The extremes is more exciting than the mixture sometimes. That's why the Super Bowl has a lame atmosphere. A lot of those people are just there for the event, not the actual teams.

I love when the guy being given no shot beats the hero. You don't see it happen much in boxing today.
