The Dungeons and Dragons Megathread v2

Found a secret stairway in an ancient bookstore (that had disguised demons as staff) last week..

...looks like a dungeon crawl incoming. .

My dialysis today has been fairly brutal. I’m wiped out and my head is killing me. No way I can drive to the game tonight much less focus on playing. It’s a shame, I was very much looking forward to it. Dying sucks. Enjoy your sessions this weekend, everyone

Thanks, Sherbro. Imma be here along time still. I got kids, grandkids, a dog, and a brand new puppy.

That is the good life Sherbro. My kids are 20 and 13. My 13 year old was getting into DND before me and his mom split. Would love to get him into our group but selfishly it's adult man time for me. Our campaign is pretty PG but our commentary is not...

Maybe this means we will get the digital version if we buy the hard copy books:

Welcome to the Party, D&D Beyond!

April 13th, 2022

Dungeons & Dragons levels up by acquiring the popular digital toolset.

Dungeons & Dragons and D&D Beyond have always felt like a part of the same family. That’s why we are excited to welcome everyone at D&D Beyond to formally join us at Wizards of the Coast, bringing together two teams dedicated to continuing to make Dungeons & Dragons easy to run and accessible to all!

It’s amazing what D&D Beyond has accomplished since its humble beginnings in 2017, and the D&D team has truly leveled up with this acquisition. With over 10 million users, millions of characters created, and millions of campaigns played, the team of 80 passionate creators across US and Europe have brought so much joy to D&D players around the world, including helping friends and family come together to play through a global pandemic.

You’re probably wondering what kind of change might happen as a result of these two teams coming together, so let’s make this clear: we have no plans to stop supporting D&D Beyond. The purchases you’ve made, the characters you’ve created, and the campaigns you’ve run aren’t going anywhere.

This is an exciting time for all of us, and growing our team means great things to come. If there’s one thing the D&D and D&D Beyond teams have in common, it’s a desire to continue making your experience playing the World’s Greatest Roleplaying game even better. We’ll have more to share with you later this year, so hone those Perception checks and warm up your dice (digital and otherwise).
In the meantime, join us in giving a hearty welcome to D&D Beyond into the Dungeons & Dragons family. Welcome to the party, pals!

Read the press release.

Hopefully, hopefully it doesn't mean they're gonna try to establish their own VTT using the Dnd Beyond and stop putting the modules out for other vtts

Party looked for answers form key NPC at some compound of what we know now to be religious cultists.

Tried to gain entry, was denied due to shit rolls...smacked around guards then given audience. Cult leader tried to trick us into walking into jail cells under guard.. Black Tenticles spell and three dead cultists later and now it's on...we tried to be nice....found father of dude that has run to the BBEG and escaped from jail.

Wife and I are being incorporated into a friend's game, we've not played since my kids were born 7yrs ago. It's going to be one character that has a multiple personality problem and we'll take turns looking after the kids whilst the other goes an plays. Can't wait, should provide some pretty good material.

Awesome! I have a changeling character like that because they are supposed to have different "masks."

Man, last week's session was good. The orcs come back and tell us they saved Thyla Starr, but Sahir the magic user escaped. The orcs take us back to their camp where Thyla has been kept safe and introduce us to the chieftan, Teef Splitta. A 15' foot orc chief who the DM tells us is a legendary character in his world. We can tell this is an amicable meeting. He gives us Thyla and says he has some magic items from Sahir's camp he's willing to trade. It's a pair of sending stones, scroll case, and the Ring of Protection +1 (identified by our bard). I'm super excited about the ring. We trade the Dragonguard breastplate we acquired from Wave Echo Cave for all of it. Our son has a 21 AC so he decides to give it to his mom (our bard) because her AC is only 13. Proud of him.

At this point, we think we'll just continue on to Triboar to follow the main quest line. Teef Splitta goes on to tell us some history and so forth, but eventually inserts a tiny word that I cue in on. Dragon. My wife and son didn't hear it. I think I regret doing this now, but I say, "Wait, did you say there's a dragon?" We're in Wyvern Tor right next to Icespire Peak. He goes on to tell us about Cryovain the white dragon. Our son is now nearly jumping out of his seat at the prospect of fighting a dragon. I facepalm because I don't want to fight a dragon and risk the death of his character, or mine for that matter.

Since I made a bad deal some games ago and was changed into a wight in exchange for protection against death for my wife, I am trying to restore my soul by dedicating to Lathander. My plan is to take a level in War Cleric at level 6. We're debating about the whole dragon situation. I pray to Lathander for a sign. Nothing. Our fighter son somehow brokers a deal with Teef Splitter to come with us to fight Cryovain. The DM tells us Teef Splitter is so powerful he could probably kill Cryovain by himself. That makes me feel better. The deal is over Cryovain's horde. We can choose to keep the dragon's treasure horde or the legendary weapon from it, a battleaxe named Oath Keeper.

But now this presents a moral dilemma for my character. He doesn't want his wife to go fight a dragon because she almost just died from the magic-user battle a few games ago. In-game, there is no way he would want her to go. In-game, I tell them I'm torn between my wife and my best friend (son fighter). We take a break from the session here and debate as a group. Fighter son wants to go fight Cryovain. Wife says she's not. I'm undecided. We go back into the game after break and have the standard D&D long debate.

Our fighter son asks our NPC paladin if he wants to go. He does and will even go without us because of his paladin creed. He asks our NPC ranger if she wants to go. She does not. My wife jumps in and says they will go back to Phandalin (probably for the wine). Teef Splitta agrees to have them escorted back. I reluctantly agree to go with our fighter. I then go on to give a soliloquy to my wife before we split up. We give each other the sending stones. I give her a prized possession. I reach down to take my ring off and give to her in case I don't return and realize I don't have a ring. She gives me her Ring of Protection which was an awesome storyline move.

And that ends the session. The DM tells us he was totally not expecting this to happen and is happy to use the week to prepare the battle with Cryovain. So now it will be Teef Splitta (legendary 15' orc), five of his orcs and one apparently has the ability to keep the dragon from flying, fighter son level 5, my level 5 fighter, and our NPC paladin.

Not sure the DM is going to make it so easy that we just waltz in and kill Cryovain in a few hits. This is what makes D&D so awesome. Never know what's going to happen. :D

Good session last week. Playing again tonight.

DM splits the session since our bard (wife) is going back to Phandalin with our NPC ranger, Thyla Starr (Sildar's now rescued long lost love), and escorted by the tribe. They make it back to Phandalin to find the previous evil magic-user, Sahir, we encountered was holding Halia Thornton hostage in the Townmaster's Hall with Sildar in a prison cell. Bard does some spectacular negotiation and convinces Sahir otherwise, but we find out he was an illusion. Bastard. Thyla goes to the Stonehill Inn to rest. Bard gets Sildar out of prison. End of their session.

Our fighter son, my fighter, NPC paladin, Teef Splitta legendary orc, and his band trek to Icespire Peak. DM made a custom map. Very cool. Great music. We begin inching our way forward trying not to fall off the cliff. Suddenly we get pelted with arrows from above. We tell the paladin to turn off his Light spell. So now we're in pitch black and next to a cliff. We fasten each other to our climbing rope while our young fighter inches along the cliff wall. No more arrows because they can't see us. Was intense.

Eventually we reach what appears to be a structure of some sort. Light on. Skeletons shooting arrows from a higher position. We try to rush into the structure but we're still tied to each other so that ends up being hilarity. We make it inside. Detach the rope. We can see what appears to be creatures around the corner. Session ends.

Tonight we see how close we get to the dragon.

Just pre-ordered the new Spelljammer e-book from D&D Beyond. Print version not available from Amazon yet.

Will be upgrading D&D Beyond account first week in May.

Fighting lots of Daemons but only one "do not fuck with" interaction with a Great Wyrm...

Would like to fight a dragon in the future.

Got to go to a wedding this week and plans on Friday, trying to beg for a Sunday session...

I miss the days of playing this with my buddies. There were about 6 or 7 of us that would play once a month at least. 2 of the guys were great DM's, one in particular, very creative guy.

Is there anything like this online? I'm always chasing a video game that gives me that experience, but they are so few and far between.

Try out DDO, still the best rpgmmo around.

im on Khyber, check it out and say Hi Zornly/Kyokoi are my main's
