T City Proves GJJ is all marketing

I've gone to a lot of schools because I travel for work. I've seen a lot of fake belts over the years.
I love that your main defense for them always seems to be "well I've seen other people do it too", trust me, if I saw or heard about other people doing it I would say the same thing

oops<StannisFrown>

As long as you stop when people call it out it's ok to do unethical things <Jaime01>.

<mma4>
Don't be mad at me that you were wrong, twice. I know you have your bias and aren't gonna change your opinion, and that's your right. But you can't get salty when you make factually incorrect statements.

Ummm my stannis pic was me saying shit, I was wrong about the belt scam being ran still

I still get the same scummy feeling from them that I do around bapist preachers and pyramid marketers. Oh I know how the game works, I just look at reality

You wouldn't say shit. The world is full of marketing. Most successful businesses have marketing making every decision. It's all marketing. And what you don't buy anything. You stand up and only buy from CO OPS. Live on a farm and plow that shit by hand. Take it easy Robin Hood

Excuse me... for good or bad I pretty much call shit as I see it, both in the real world and here.

If I saw or heard instructors who gave out online belts for enough money or promoted students who paid enough.. I would have just as much a problem with it. And like I've repeatedly said, I don't have a problem with capitalism, I have a problem with being unethical..

Because by your logic.. it's ok to sleep with your students, cheat on your wife, scam people and so on.. because well other people do it too. Being a "true martial artist" and ethical only matters when convenient. thank you;)

At least I'm not so stupid that someone being nice and professional at work or a seminar makes me judge them as a good or bad person overall.

I thought they still sold "technical" belt online!

Who are you to call things as you see them? Part of your problem is you think your opinion matters to anyone else but you.

Where do you draw the line between unethical and capitalism. The dairy industry developed the food groups. Now those 5 basic food groups are susper in causing cancer in millions of Americans. The beef, chicken and vegetables Americans eat are pumped with GMOs and steroids to get more people food and a cheeper. Also causes cancer.

And you are on a mission to stop some guys, who already stopped giving on line belts away, to stop giving on line belts away.

We got bigger problems. I know where my moral line in the sand is. I got better things in this world to fight then a jiu jitsu school trying to spread their system to everyone. Even if it makes them some extra cash.

My opinion of your acquaintance who was nice to you a few times seems to matter to you more than it should and..

lol part of my job is teaching kids nutrition and explaining the problems with things like the dairy industry.. so they don't risk their lives and health by cutting weight instead of eating healthy and lifting.and I'm just as vehement about it as I am about this bullshit. And yes other businesses and companies have done unethical shit.. so apparently we should all just do that and not work to make it better without devolving into socialist bullshit? Ok.

Bjjwarehouse.com sells every color belt you want. You don't even need.to.submit a video.
Of all of your arguments.. this has to be the weakest.. it's not even apples to oranges. Is bjjwarehouse a school or instructor offering training or certification or the ideas that come with that belt when given by an instructor

Or are you going to ignore the things implied or that come with a belt promotion beyond a piece of cloth to make an almost asinine point? Because you are getting pedantic in a very false and disingenuous way

Bjjwarehouse.com sells every color belt you want. You don't even need.to.submit a video.

But it does not come with a nice certificate.

Like when they certified under 18 years which I consider as children to be certified combatives training centre instructors.

Ortega won and had an exciting fight, but let's be honest, he's never going to be a Demian Maia or a Werdum.

I thought they still sold "technical" belt online!
No. The "technical" blue belt doesn't exist anymore. Only students at actually academies can be promoted to blue belt.

Gracie University "Technical Blue Belts" for Online Students (2017)

In the video below, Ryron and Rener discuss a modification to the Gracie University belt promotion process. Effective June 1, 2014, students who complete the Gracie Combatives program from home, and pass the Blue Belt Test via the Video Evaluation Process, will earn a Gracie University Technical Blue Belt. To earn the Official Gracie Academy Blue Belt, students must pass an extended hands-on evaluation with Ryron, Rener, or an authorized Gracie Academy representative at a Certified Training Center. Listed below are some of the frequently asked questions regarding the new blue belt promotion process.

As before, promotion to purple belt and brown belt require an in person evaluation with an authorized Gracie Academy representative, and black belt promotion requires successful completion of a one-week live evaluation at Gracie Academy headquarters in Torrance, California.

The Gracie Debate: "Online" vs. "Live" Training

FAQs for the New Blue Belt Promotion Process

1) What is the purpose of introducing the Technical Blue Belt?
The testing requirements for the Technical Blue Belt are no different than they were for the Official Blue Belt over the last five years. The only difference is after June 1, 2014, we will only award the Official Blue Belt to people who have their reflexes verified in person at an authorized CTC. In other words, the difference between Technical and Official Blue Belts, besides the tag on the actual belt awarded, exists only in the method of verification, not in the curriculum or techniques covered. The primary purpose of introducing the Technical Blue Belt is to encourage more Gracie University students to have their reflexes verified in person by a qualified instructor so that they can benefit from hands-on assessment and feedback.

2) What if I already earned my belt through Gracie University Video Evaluation Process, is it still recognized as an Official Blue Belt?
Yes, we will grandfather all Gracie University blue belts earned through video evaluation prior to June 1, 2014 as official belts without requiring live evaluation. Any video-based blue belt tests submitted by home-study students on or after June 1, 2014, will be Gracie University Technical Blue Belts.

3) If I earn my Technical Blue Belt, how do I earn my Official Blue Belt?
When you pass the video-based blue belt tests and earn your Technical Blue Belt, you will receive detailed feedback on all your strengths and weaknesses. Once you've implemented the recommended changes, you can request a Live Evaluation at the Gracie Academy or at an authorized CTC. If you pass the test, the evaluator will award your Official Blue Belt in person. Please note that although we recommend you earn your Technical Blue Belt before testing for your Official Blue Belt, it is not required. If you think you have the reflexes and conviction necessary, you can jump straight to the Live Evaluation for Official Blue Belt consideration without having earned your Technical Blue Belt.

4) What's the difference between the Live Evaluation and the Video Evaluation?
Although the techniques being tested are exactly the same, there are some significant differences between testing via video and testing in person. The Video Evaluation is conducted with a partner of your choosing in a controlled environment where you can repeat the test as many times as you want before you submit your videos. The Live Evaluation is conducted by an authorized evaluator who will test your timing, technique, reflexes and conviction, and you only get one shot at it.

5) If I earn a Technical Blue Belt, am I still able to advance through the Master Cycle curriculum and work towards purple belt?
Yes. Earning the Technical Blue Belt is perfect indicator that you have successfully completed the Gracie Combatives course, and as such, you will be fully prepared and authorized to begin working on the Master Cycle. Once you pass the Blue Belt Stripe 1 course via the Video Evaluation Process, we will send you the official BBS1 stripe to apply on your Technical Belt. After you earn all four stripes, you will be authorized to take the live Purple Belt Test even though you may have never earned the Official Blue Belt.

So basically Gracie Combatives verified live is enough for a blue?

So basically Gracie Combatives verified live is enough for a blue?

1. From what you posted above, everything below "Gracie University "Technical Blue Belts" for Online Students (2017)" is outdated and three years old and should be updated. From the actual Gracie University FAQ (bold and italics for emphasis is mine).

Q: What is the difference between the Gracie Combatives belt and the blue belt?
spacer.gif

A: The Gracie Combatives belt has replaced the blue belt (and the technical blue belt) as the symbol of completion for the Gracie Combatives program. You must pass the Gracie Combatives test with a score of 90 or higher in order to earn the promotion.

Q: If I’ve already earned my technical blue Belt, how do I earn my official blue belt?
spacer.gif

A: The Technical Blue Belt is essentially being replaced by the Gracie Combatives belt. So, if you’ve already earned your Technical Blue Belt, the 6-month minimum time requirement and the testing process (outlined in the Testing Center) is the same as if you earned your Gracie Combatives belt and were aiming to test for blue belt. The 6-month requirement begins from the day you earned your technical blue belt.

So basically Gracie Combatives verified live is enough for a blue?

No - you have to take time and learn beyond it along with sparring in gi, no-gi and sparring with punches (they call it fight sim). Then you have to test in person, at an academy.

Q: Once I earn the Gracie Combatives belt, how do I earn my blue belt?
spacer.gif

A: As outlined in the Testing Center, upon completing the Gracie Combatives course, you must dedicate at least six additional months before you may test for blue belt at a Certified Training Center. During that time, focus your training entirely on the techniques, drills, and live sparring exercises in the Master Cycle Blue Belt Stripe 1 (BBS1) curriculum. Although you will NOT be tested on the individual BBS1 techniques, you should study all 60 BBS1 lessons so that you will have a solid understanding of all seven positions of the Master Cycle curriculum to pass the blue belt test. On average, we expect a Gracie Combatives graduate to dedicate an additional 60-100 hours of BBS1 drilling and sparring in order to pass the blue belt test. Watch the sparring drill explanations of the BBS1 test (gi, no-gi, and fight simulation) to gain an understanding of the sparring format and our expectations for your performance.

Sure signs someone has no leg to stand on: they immediately start inflating the scope of the argument to some abstract overarching generalities rather than stick the particular point at hand.

Strange. Their website still talks about online testing for their combatives belt.

Combatives belt isnt a blue belt. It's a white belt with a blue line down the middle for people who complete combatives but aren't academy students.

Only people who go to a brick and mortar academy can be blue belt now, and the old "technical blue belts" are retroactively demoted to "combatives belt".
