South East Asians have the highest poverty and highschool dropout rates of any group in America

South East Asians are a minority group within a minority group in America. The Countries include Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and others. According to Whitehouse.gov an American government website S.E Asians have a highschool dropout rate of over 30% compared to 7.3 % for Blacks and 10.6 % for Hispanics.
Some groups of SE Asians also have the Highest poverty rate 37.8% for Hmongs, 29.3% for Cambodians compared to Blacks poverty rate were 27.4% and Hispanics 26.6%. U.S average is below 12.4 percent.

This is just an example of how flawed American statistics are. What do you guys think about this news?

Native Americans are worse off. Go look at pine ridge reservation or Rosebud.

Asians also top the income charts in the US. Indians, Filipino and I want to say Koreans are the top 3 in the US.

edit: yeah, i was right after looking at your source, in regards to poverty. hmongs are southeast asians with a higher poverty rate than blacks and hispanics. according to that, filipinos have the lowest poverty rates of any asians at 6% whereas the national average is 12%. hmong, cambodians, viets and thais are the only ones with higher poverty rates than the average population. but viet and thais are damn close to the average population.

even vietnamese and thai are 14% nationally, despite coming from a country where the average wages are $150-200 per month

High school is overrated anyways. You sit there listening to a boring lecture. Then read a book and try to memorize it all for test.

Let them drop out, it wont matter. They spend their time more productively delivering food, or doing manual labor. They earn money. They aint earning jack in school.

Those well of SEAs are probably chinese SEAs though. The hmongs are most like refugees or poor back in Laos, so if they dont have what it takes to make it Laos, they probably are gon be poor here too.

the source you posted, shows how many of them hold high school diplomas, not how many of them attended and dropped out.

many of them immigrated AFTER being high school age. SEA countries with a communist revolution laos, cambodia and vietnamese persecuted educated people. my laotian ex girlfriends family fled laos because the regime was going around murdering anyone who was educated. so those immigrants are going to be less likely to hold degrees

according to your childtrends source, only 1% of asians as a whole drop out from high school, compared to 5% of whites, 7% of blacks and 11% of hispanics. that makes it very statistically unlikely that SEAs can drop out more than hispanics without raising the asian group over 1.1%.


if im missing something, please feel free to correct me. i had trouble navigating some of those datasets so i could be wrong

my high school didnt have many hmong, it was mostly viets, koreans, chinese/taiwan and philipinos

i only know about hmongs from all the other asians incessantly talking shit on them

I am sure many educated and wealthy did leave. But at same time, I also sure many poor people left as well as they just dont like living there, and feel they can get more from US. And I am also sure many of the educated Laotians are also of chinese descent.

but i agree, his data sets dont seem to exclude immigrants who came as adults which will greatly skew the results. imo its only a fair comparison to compare immigrant to immigrant or american born vs american born
