Should we try to broadcast our existence out to the universe so other intelligent life will notice?

Either we're just a dumb, war like primitive race that should be left alone or we're the intelligent ones. In which case, the universe is gonna wrecked.

I strongly suspect all these aliens sighting are beings that coming from somewhere in our solar system because interstellar space is just so absurdly far. And these beings are clearly aware of our existence.

Communicating with anything beyond the solar system is just our imagination gone wild at this point.
Strictly speaking an entity that thinks on a 5th dimensional wavelength would be able to instantly jump to any quadrant of the universe within their visible sight. Never mind their own equivalent of hubble. e.g a human in that case would be able to appear on the moon just by looking at it and thinking about wanting to be there. It's a bit like how your one week ago is your current right now, before you blink a weeks time has passed. If we were 4d minded we could travel back and forth in time by thinking about it. We only progress linerally in 4d.

@lsa was telling me that he welcomes this.

He thinks a little interstellar warfare is just what we need to unite humanity.

A little war have never hurt anybody.
also the beers after are great

I suspect what would actually happen is the threat of Aliens and the need for "unity" would be used to push though existing conflicts much more aggressively, whats a little local genocide compared to saving the human race? Greedy sociopaths won't stop being that with the threat of Alien invasion.

Yeah disaster capitalism.......

One would need to be able to travel like a million times the speed of light to be able to reliably travel around even our own galaxy.

they wouldn't be travelling. It would essentially be Goku's instant transportation. Be in point A think about point B = appear in point B

If you can't reach them but they can reach you, chances are if they have aggressive intentions you're fucked

They can't see us.

Although if your were talking about some alien empire of some AI spreading across the galaxy even with the tech we have now it could do so within a relatively short time in terms of the age of the universe, on a scale of a few million years

I'v seen one reading of the situation which states that even if intelligent life in the universe is relatively common it will tend to be a "first come first served" situation in each galaxy, the first civilisation to arise will put down the potential for any others to rise which could threaten it. So its the anthropomorphic principle but on a galaxic scale, its very rare that we happened to be in a galaxy were other intelligent life hasn't yet arisen but if it had it would have stopped us from existing.

In terms of travel its when you move to intergalactic scales when things tend to get questionable, Andromeda is 2.5 million lightyears away so if travel anything close to lightspeed is impossible then your talking maybe hundreds of millions of years or even billions of years.

Does mean when Andromia gets close in a billion or two years time there is going to be an almighty smackdown between the ultra AI we give birth to and the one which probably lives there.

If we're talking millions and billions of years Milky Way, Andromeda and Triangulum are all going to be in the same galaxy. And these galaxys joining our galaxy doesn't mean we have access to them.

In the billions of years future almost everything besides the Local Group(Milky Way, Andromeda and Triangulum) will essentially be in another dimension though because they will be so far they won't be visible. So our local group will become the "observable universe". Whatever life, resources and things exist in these small number of galaxies is all anyone in our supergalaxy will have access to.

When is NASA going to smarten up and put a Hemi in their space ships? We'd be exploring Andromeda by now.

If the aliens see any of our porn maybe they’ll come abduct all our hot chicks like in Duke Nukem.
They probably do like our women. Isn't that a part of abductions? Didn't Zeus bed some, and Bible beings wanted them too? Maybe they are showing up more now because they have a chance with our hottest ones. Especially because they probably need all genders combined into one, so the awake ppl do serve a purpose also. Wow. Makes sense now. Hmf.QuaintSecondKomododragon-max-1mb.gif

Kind of like that guy that can control his pc with his mind? Nueralink or something? Kind of makes sense. Time, speed, etc. is a human construct. "Laws" created by primitive beings.

I don't have a problem with it but at the same time, it does seem just for show.

For instance, radio transmissions (think TV/radio) actually leave our atmosphere and enter space. So technically, we are already broadcasting our existence to the universe. The book/movie Contact is based on that premise. Aliens received the first television broadcast which just happened to be the Naziis hosting the Olympics.

If a civilization is advanced enough, they are going to detect radio signals from our general direction. But the 2nd part is, are they then advanced enough to actually come here? That's the part that I think it's probably going to be rare.

I lean towards life being abundant in the universe but most are either microbial or at best, non-space fairing creatures. I think space fairing societies are going to be pretty rare. Ones that are actually capable of leaving the solar system? Far more rare.

No. Prey should never broadcast its existence

Just finished that book. Tried rewatching the movie and it's terrible compared to the book. The book is a great take on this thread topic though.

I don't know, Michio Kaku thinks it's a bad idea but it seems that there are some sort of intelligent beings already here that know all about us. If they wanted to harm us, they probably could very easily. At any rate, they are closer and probably similar in terms of what we should worry about from a superior civilization or beings.

Here? Na lol

Maybe, if you're not hearing that, you're not following what people are speculating. They are speculating that either they live underwater or in a different dimension, no one really knows but from what the military guys are saying, they think they aren't aliens at all. It's fascinating and I wonder why more people are not paying attention because if this stuff has any truth to it, it could completely change all of our realities.
