Redaxe's Training Log

private video is private.

Whoops. Thanks, I made them public now.

Form tips appreciated if you have any.

Sorry for vertical video and for the low light level in my garage.

Deficit Deadlifts (3/4")
295x5
335x5

Deadlifts
375x5
405x2

OHP
105x5
120x5
135x7

I feel like I'm making progress. It might not be that obvious from my numbers yet, but I can feel it, I've been lifting consistently and eating well, and as a result my form is getting better and the weights are going up easier. Building up for some big PRs this year.

Squat
295x5
315x3
335x1
355x2 (didn't like my setup and stance so I reracked it to try again)
355x4 (rep PR)
315x3

Bench
195x5
220x3
235x1
245x1
250x1 (245 went up fast so I went for a 5 lb PR and got it easily)

RDLs with 135
Hamstring DOMS in my near future

Pull-ups 7x4

Nice work on the PR.

Thanks.

I feel kind of lame only going for 5 lbs, but I was benching alone, I prefer to have a spotter if I go for a bigger PR.

But now I feel pretty confident with trying 255 next cycle.

Cleans/Clean & jerks (jerk only on 1st rep of every set, then cleans)
135x3
155x3
175x3

Deadlifts
175x5
225x3
275x3
315x3
365x3
405x3

Setup and pulling form felt very good this time. Didn't feel any back rounding.

OHP
95x5
115x3
130x3
145x3
135x5

Few sets of curls, shrugs, farmer walks, lunges, all with a pair of 50 lbs dumbbells. Good grip training for me.

Good stuff. I started reading at the top of the page & then I realized it was 2012! :D

Planning any tournaments this year?

Hah, yeah... I stopped logging here for a year and just kept everything in my 5/3/1 spreadsheet. But recently I regained a lot of my motivation to lift, and logging it here helps, I think.

I'm planning to do the next Revolution BJJ tournament on March 29th, it's the biggest tournament in WA state: http://www.leapllc.com/

I only competed once last year, but I want to compete 3-4 times this year. I'm just going to do ultra heavy, because the whole weight cutting issue is always the main thing that bums me out about tournaments. I hate cutting weight more than I hate losing, and I decided that my strength goals are more important than making a lower weight class.

The issue I might face at this weight class is a lack of opponents, though. There are only a handful of other purple belts over 220 lbs who actively compete in WA.

Congrats on your recent silver medal, btw! Are you planning to compete again soon?

Thanks for the congrats - I'm considering doing Pans in March. I don't think my skill level is quite where it should be to have a shot at a medal, but I might do it anyway.

Thursday
Squats
Experimenting with adding a volume day
275x5x5

Bench
225x3x3

Deadlift
295x5
335x5
385x5

Back was smoked after squatting and deadlifting in the same workout. Felt fine on Friday though.

Today
Power Cleans
135x3
155x3
175x3

Squats
285x5
330x5
360x5 - big rep PR here

Bench
195x5
225x3
250x2 but really 1 because on the second rep I bitched out and stopped like an inch off my chest, so it doesn't count. No matter, it's still progress, this is PR weight for me.

Chin ups 3 sets of 5 to finish

Easy Tuesday night lifting
Power Cleans
145x2
165x2
185x2

Deadlifts
225x3
315x3
365x3
405x3

Deadlifts felt really light. Maybe because I went full fatass and ate a bunch of fried chicken, chili and pot roast this weekend.

OHP
115x3
130x3
145xamrap, got 5 out

Last squat/bench workout was deload week.

Today:
Power Cleans
155x3
175x2
195x1
205x1 (PR)

OHP
115x5
135x3
155x3

Deadlifts
335x5
385x3
425x3 (rep PR)

Then no-gi BJJ with Cindy Hales at noon.

Just logging my top sets because I'm lazy.

Mon: BJJ
Tue: Squat 325x8, OHP 145x5, 185x5 pendlay rows
Wed: BJJ
Thu (today): Dead 390x5, Bench 240x3x2, Pull-ups 10x3
Fri: Rest and eat food with the wife, it's valentine's day after all
Sat: No-Gi BJJ

The pull-ups felt easy as fuck today. I normally do sets of 5-8 but I banged out sets of 10 with very little effort. Maybe soon it's gonna be time to get one of those belts so I can do weighted pull-ups.

Also could be because I cut back my calories & carbs a little bit this week, to about maintenance or maybe slightly below. I've been on a long bulk since August and I'm practically busting out of the slacks I wear to work. I feel I could stand to lose a few % BF.

Sunday:
Power Cleans 140x3, 160x3, 180x3
Squats 225x3, 275x3, 315x3, 345x3x3
Bench 135x8, 185x5, 205x5x5

Tonight, BJJ. Lots of side control escapes and some reversals from turtle.

My new BJJ nickname is "Polar Bear" apparently, I guess because I'm big and white, lol.

Weighed 236 lbs after BJJ today, that means I'm pushing 240 when fully rested and hydrated. I was really good with my diet all week and then pigged out on food and beer with my wife just because it was Valentine's Day, smh...

Power Cleans
140x2, 160x2, 180x2

Deadlifts
225x3, 320x3, 365x3, 415x5
These went up fast, I think I fixed a few of the things that were wrong with my pull recently and got my setup dialed in. 415x5 would have had me straining my back a few weeks ago but it was pretty easy today.

OHP
120x3, 135x3, 150x4

OHP is progressing very slowly but it is still progress. Left elbow and trap felt a little achy from my last 5x5 bench session too.
