i play games to enjoy myself.....not become even more aggravated due to some game.
last game i played was original dark souls. played it for an hour before i said nah fuck this
That's how I was with Souls games. I restarted Dark Souls 1 a few times way back. It was the PC version, which was notoriously buggy/clunky/choppy. I always swore to never play another after a few brief sessions, then came Dark Souls 3. Game was smooth as butter, so I couldn't blame the framerate. After being unable to beat the first main boss after 20 or so attempts, I pretty much rage quit and swore off the genre...again
That shit ate quietly at me for a long time, as you couldn't escape the Dark Souls phenomenon and people saying "gitgud" lol. I should have loved Dark Souls, as I love actions RPG's, dark fantasy, and Metroidvania level design, but now in third person (I always wanted that). I enjoy a good challenge too, and like to consider myself a good athlete with above average hand eye coordination.
Dark Souls became personal. When DS3 went on sale, I was determined to at least beat that first boss. I was more calculated this time, as I learned you can't play it like Devil May Cry-type games. I beat that fucker after a few attempts and gave the DX crotch chop to my screen like I won the superbowl. Combat just clicked with me, and I was able to appreciate the rich world building/environment storytelling, along with the intricate level design. The game rewards patience and deliberate actions, as each enemy can doom you early.
I stopped playing after a couple of hours and decided to do the series from scratch, this time with Dark Souls remastered, and proper 60 FPS on PC.
I played every single game of FromSoft a couple of times over the next few months, even emulating Demon's Souls on PS3.
That's what brought me to Lords of the Fallen, my first "souls-like". I was like a crack addict looking for another fix. I think I played LOTF 4 years after release, so I didn't experience the bugs it had at launch. The game had a lot of issues, but I loved the chunky armor and aesthetics of the world. The graphics still held up, and despite most weapons being painfully slow, there were some exceptions.
LOTF has a special place in my heart, so I'm glad they took their time making this. I can't wait to fire it up!
