Im addition to surrendering a portion of their purse:
1. They lose 1 point for every single round that goes into the books
2. They may not ascend in the rankings for winning a CW fight that didn’t occur in an official weight class
3. No fighter who missed weight may fight for the title without winning at least 2 more fights after missing weight.
4. The onus is now on the guy who MISSED weight on whether or not he wants to accept the fight, rather than pressuring the dedicated pro who made weight into fighting at a disadvantage.
Sick of seeing the pro who made weight get screwed while the lazy fatso who missed moves up.
As much as this would work..its to unrealistic to inforce , not too many promotions will be on board with this..
But i do think there needs to be wieght cutting reform and bigger penalties for missing weight this is a professional sport..
For the reform part ive posted this in another thread already but i believe all fight cards should have two weigh ins..the offical weigh in and one day of the fight weigh in two hours before the event is set to begin. All fighters mus weigh in there by no more then 10lbs of there official weigh in weight. This is to curve the big cutting we have now that leads to these overages.
For example:
Darren till weighs ins official at 171lbs
Fight night weigh in he cant exceed 181lbs 2 hrs prior to the start of the fight card prelims.
This will tighten up divisions and even out the competition.
As far as missing weight penalties i suggest the following system.
First offense: If a non short notice fighter misses a contractually set weigh in they will face a 25% pay fine to be handed over to the opposing fighter and the fight will only contuine if the miss is within 2lbs of the missed weight. ( 170lbs miss = 172lbs max)
If the miss is larger then the 2lbs the fight is scrapped and the opposing fighter recieves there own show money opon making wieght
Second offense: if a fighter misses weight within the same divison for second time regardless of the # of fights between the last miss they will be subject to a 30% revenue fine and the fight will be scrapped regardless of The over poundage and the opposing fighter will recieve there show pay if they make weight.
Third offense: A third offense will be a sign of either the end of the fighters tenure as a ufc fighter or that particular weigjt class there choice.
So move up or move on..
