When you have the most wins in baseball and trying to win this year I don't cut my 3rd hole hitter. Unless they have a deal already in place to trade for a Machado type to replace him and his salary for this year.

Cutting bait with Canley is ballsy, but paying him 22M next year is plane stupid. Get out from under the Canley money next year, Candoval the year after and then start with the extensions for guys like Mookie/X and (as risky as it might be depending on length of deal) Sale.

You keep using "3rd hole hitter" like it means he is their 3rd best hitter, he isn't close to that.
 
I agree about not wanting him next year for sure. But they thought of him as the 3 hole hitter all year. This is the type of move that can kill a clubhouse and showing they don't care about winning this year while dumping him with the most wins in baseball. If I was the Sox id trade for a Machado type real quick to fix this.

They thought of him as the 3 hole hitter, but found out he still sucks. You know what would kill a clubhouse? Benching a guy so that he loses 22M next year. I’m sure he would be great in there & for sure not a cancer.

Sox have the best record in the league but let’s fire the manager & gm because they batted Canley 3rd and senior citizens can’t wrap their heads around a guy underperforming.

Should also further deplete the farm and trade for a SS/3b who they’d have to pay next year when they have Devers and Xander who are both cheap for at least a few more years (many more for Devers).

I’ve always liked my power hitters to hit homeruns though. Especially if they stink defensively. Canley has one 30 HR season in like 10 years lol.

3 hole hitter though so...
 
Looks like Hanley was the 8th highest OPS on the team, and it's not like he is really close to the other guys. Bunch of dudes breaking 1.000, he is in the low 700s. Plus the position stuff already mentioned.

Canley is old fat and sucks at baseball now. He can’t even play in the field lmao. If they moved him down in the line up he probably would’ve thrown a fit like the little bitch that he is. Maybe someone else can have the glorified “3 hole hitter” from one of the best offenses in baseball.

lmao at Canley being a 3 hole hitter. He's been a below average hitter 3 of the last 4 years and provides like zero defensive value.

Red Sox just got a bit better today, unfournately. They probably have a few cans in AAA that would be a better 3 hole hitter lmao
