This guy is the shit.
I've been listening to him since
you shared this.

"Africa Brasil" is amazing.

Thank you

Oh man, if you're just starting out, the Willie Colon/Hector Lavoe combos are absolute musts.

Look up:

La Murga de Panama
El Dia de mi Suerte
Che Che Cole

Then Hector Lavoe's solo stuff:

El Cantante (10 minutes of epicness)
El Periodico de Ayer
Triste y Vacia
Juanito Alimaña
Songoro Consongo
El Rey de la Puntualidad
Ella Mintio
Mi Gente
Aguanile

IMO, the crown jewel of Willie Colon's solo work is "Idilio"
Fell in love with "Idilio"
It's probably his best vocal performance.

I'll be checking out the rest of Lavoe*
Thanks doggy

Just found these dudes this past
week or so. They have some really
great stuff that has similar qualities
of Colon & Lavoe's releases.
Especially this song "Que Pena"

& THIS song... I thought something
had sounded familiar about it right
as the track started to kick in....
I'm sure anyone who grew up with
90s american pop could point it out
right away as well. I was pretty
shocked to know that Jermaine Dupree
had straight up stolen this song....
I'll put the song thief in some spoiler tags

need some Selena ITT.

and a bonus

The kid on the right looks like Nate Diaz when he was a kid.

Jairo Varela has to be one of the greatest musical geniuses ever.

The guy wrote 98% of Niche's songs and was at least partly responsible for their production. And he was an autodidact, from what I've heard.

Been getting introduced to more
of this incredible music. It's just
as expansive & rich as any other
I've come across. One thing that
has grasped me has been the
African percussion influence in the
coastal regional music of Colombia.

A lot of it sounds like afro-beat,
but in spanish, even down to the
backing chanting vocals.

Just tagging doggies that come to
mind who might appreciate this as well

I will say the african percussion is more prevalent in the Caribbean like in DR or PR.
