It seems Jose Aldo already contacted a lawyer to assess his contract situation

Baby Jay gave Dana the opportunity to increase his pay multiple times before he signed with K1. It's well documented.

He didn't even require the UFC to match his offer. He just wanted more than what he was making.

He also wanted to be able to continue to fight for other orgs.

I'm sure they would have loved to add Hollaway/Aldo...
This is why Aldo is a nobody, he has no idea how to play his cards right. This could have been a huge opportunity for him to force Conor to fight him or look horrible and make a boatload of money.

Well we will see shortly won't we. Aldo can ask for his release, and the UFC can say yes or no.

Then, through his attorney, Aldo could more stringently demand his release. Perhaps alluding to litigation on the grounds that the UFC broke a verbal agreement. Not saying they would in this case, but courts hold verbal agreements binding all the time. That is one of the follies of having a figurehead running his mouth in public all the time.

All sorts of ways an attorney could approach this. I'm sure the UFC will have their attorneys to advising them as well.

Verbal agreement? Unless the UFC lawyers advertise on the back of city buses, that's very very easy to dispute. I am fairly certain Aldo's lawyers and the UFC's operate at a slightly different level. Sports contracts are pretty straight forward and typically there is language within them specifying that any and all negotiations need to be communicated in "writing". The reason being promoters make claims and promises all the time that end up falling apart.

For example, do you think all the guys that were set to fight Aldo and were not able to because of his injuries are able to sue him? Dana says to Conor, "you are fighting Aldo at UFC 189". He calls Conor back and says, "buddy Aldo is injured the fight is off". So this constitutes a verbal agreement. In this case there was also a written contract for the fight. So Conor can sue because Dana verbally (and later promised in writing) because the fight fell through?

For giggles, google sports combat contract templates. There are a few. The better ones provide all sorts of language around the uncertainty of the fight game. the UFC's is far superior to any of the boilerplates available.

As I said before, Aldo has the option of retiring, or continuing to fight for the UFC until his contracted number of fights run out (at which time the UFC still has a matching clause if he decides to go elsewhere).

And that's it.

There is nothing to see here, the law is very simple and very clear....

No Japanese org is cancelling an event on Dana or the US government's say so. Not to mention he could fight in Russia

Not how it works, the organisation would be held accountable, and there assets frozen.

Do u really think it woukd be that easy to get out of a ufc contract?? To just not fight in the US?? Dont be ridiculous.

Utter nonsense.

But what if Aldo decided to retire? Will that allow him to be forcefully release from UFC?
if he retires he can't fight anywhere else and the UFC will have his rights in case he tries fighting again

what a pussy instead of just cleaning out the division and saying fuck conor if we fight we fight he goes the pussy brazilian route and talks about respect.

Uh while i agree its silly, conor pulled the same retirememt crap not long ago...

He would be in the exact same situation. Just look how Dana and the UFC treated Benson Henderson before he went to Bellator. Benson always stepped up when guys pulled out and he was treated like garbage. The UFC consistently screws over people who are not Conor, Ronda, Brock and the likes.
Yes, that is indeed true. But to be honest no all fighters have the same appeal amongst the fans. At the end of the day it's supply and demand. Conor freaking out and bating his opponents brings in more PPVs. It's even worse in the music business. You get loads of stars with minimal talent who are marketed like crazy and become huge. At least Conor, Ronda and Brock to a lesser extent do or did actually have skills and did achieve something.
