Criticism of the occupation, West Bank settlements and other aspects of Israeli policy is not only valid, but is often made with Israel's best interests in mind.
Calling for Israel's elimination or endorsing terrorism against Israel serving as the state of the Jewish people is not going anywhere. It is like the right wing who insist that with compensation Palestinians will move to Jordan or with enough convincing Jordan will take control of Areas A and B.
There is little hope for peace right now. It is a stalemate. Perhaps with Abbas death there can be movement. If the PA falls apart (Abbas has not groomed anyone to take over), Israel will have to decide if they will want to police all of the West Bank with their 18 and 19 year olds.
Or perhaps a new Palestinian leader with legitimacy will come to power who can work with Israel that is willing to compromise on right of return and work with Israel with some land swaps and primarily focus on creating a Palestinian state more than trying to fix what they see as a historical injustice.
"Little hope for peace" is being optimistic LOL. Likud has been encircling East Jerusalem for decades now and their plan is to drive all the Arabs out. If you've seen the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" there's dialogue at the end that I really wish came to pass:
Balian of Ibelin: Before I lose it, I will burn it to the ground. Your holy places - ours. Every last thing in Jerusalem that drives men mad.
Saladin: I wonder if it would not be better if you did.
