so grandpa can sit in front of the tv and see grandkid, b/c it's too hard for grandpa to hold up an ipad for facetime and talk at the same time.

To me, this just means anyone who owns a SmartTV is a fool.

But of course very few people these days care about their privacy or government overreach. As long as they get their cool toys, that's all that matters.

I personally don't think most people are in much danger. I think a cracker would have to have both the external IP address of your router and the internal IP address of your TV, plus some information on that TV make/model.

If they are able to breach your router I think most people would find it more beneficial to crack into someone's phone or computer.

You can also defeat the camera crack with a piece of duct tape.
