As a grinder myself when I competed, and having coached some, it's very much a mentality that comes (typically) from being less talented so you learn how to grind out wins or wear down/drag into deep water people more talented than skilled
I'm actually having to adjust certain things coaching wise because I suddenly have athletes for the first time at my new job
The biggest thing has been pacing. I don't have to slow things down nearly as much, more free to teach certain techniques. Because they can get away with being less technical and "sloppier" you have to emphasize that working on becoming more technical makes it easier and slicker to do more than it being a immediate necessity. Because they are explosive they don't need to "grind" so you focus on energy management, on "how" to explode or blitz but it not be a one time thing in the firstHow did you change your coaching method for the athletes?
