When his cousin is handing out the plane tickets before they get on the shuttle there should have been an extra one which would have made them realise Kevin wasn't there.

At the start, right after Kevin knocks over the pepsi his dad unknowingly throws a plane ticket out while cleaning up the mess which gets the whole ball rolling.
