Full analysis of potential Cro Cop versus Jones fight.

Lets leave aside some freak fight ending possibilites and assume there are only 3 ways of winning a fight: by T(KO),submission or by decision.


Lets do the case for Jones first:
1.)T(KO):
Does Jones have the power to knock Mirko out? Probably yes, if it lands 100% clean, but Jones is not known for his power, and that was LHW division, we are now talking about HW.
Is he going to connect 100% clean on Mirko? Very unlikely...CC is not a fat wrestler who started training striking in his 30s but one of the best strikers this sport has ever seen, or any sport as a matter of fact.
Some would say "but what about Randleman?"...Mirko clearly underestimated Kevin back then, it was a huge uspet and the game has evolved plus Randleman is like 3 times more explosive and has 3 times more power than Jones.

So is it likely for Jones to T(KO) CC : Very unlikely

2.)Submission:
Mirko has been submitted only 2 times in his entire career. Both times was against the very best submission artists the HW division has ever seen. First time against Nog back when Mirko was just a novice in ground fighting and before he brought in Werdum.
The second time relatively recently when he made some stupid mistakes, which is unusual for Mirko, and tried to outgrapple then pretty anonymous Oleynik, which was silly...it only indicates he didn't take that fight seriously...On the other hand, he would take Jones very seriously.
And Mirko has been known for years as a great defensive fighter on the ground, while Jones as good as he is, is not Demian Maia or Werdum, or a BJJ black belt on that level.

So is it likely for Jones to submitt CC : Very unlikely

3.)Decision:
Jones would most certainly give Mirko many problems with his style...for example those knee strikes he uses frequently...Mirko hates those. Plus Mirko is almost 43 and has shot knees...so it probably wouldn't be too hard for Jones to take Mirko down...but only with some single or double legs because i don't see Jones outpowering one of the physically strongest fighters in the HW divison, and that is based on many fighters that faced Mirko, who later prased his physical strenght...remember, this is HW.
GnP? Jones is excellent there but so is Mirko...Jones would do some damage but i don't see him finishing Mirko there...remember, probably the GOAT of GnP, Fedor couldn't do anything to Mirko.

So is it likely for Jones to dominate and take a decison : Very LIKELY


Now, case for Mirko:

1.)T(KO):
Strong possibility. Mirko is one of the best finishers and strikers this sport has ever seen...so is it possible for him,such a powerful HW to knock a LHW Jones out? Absolutely.

Long story short...

2.)Submission: No

3.)Decision: Very unlikely




So the conclusion is, the fight would finish almost certainly either Jones by decision, or Mirko by T(KO)...i would say its 65-35 for Jones...i am just being a realistic Mirko's fan...however,prime CC would be a different story(Mirko being a favourite, ofcourse).

He had the flue in the Hunt fight and looked pale. Check your history.

It was a split décision of a kickboxing match the fight never went to the ground. Stop looking at records on Sherdog.

Bones would get supplexed outside of the ring by full roid Randleman and would land head first on some random japanese dude.

There is a reason why your roided hero has never moved up to heavyweight.

Go play with him on EA UFC 2 at HW because this is the only place wherz your Bones will ever fight again.

Guy isn't even 30 yet and already wasted all his fighting carreer.

Anderson is 3-2 in Pride, Couture is 3-3 in ring.

Hunt's victory against CC who carried foot injury till after the Grad Prix is very questionable. Shoes and soft bandages that CC wore to protect his foot saved Hunt when those kicks landed.

Randleman who wasn't that good was UFC champion and beat Cro Cop, Rizzo, Mo Smith, Pette Williams, Sobral, Ninja Rua, Fontes Braga and he beat Bas Rutten by opinion of many, and almost sent Fedor to a wheelchair.
So he was pretty good for his time, and thats important, and he was ranked Top 10 at the time of CC fight.

Alex Emilianenko has more top wins than you say. You had to be there and watch it at that time and understand right context of time, and not to make conclusions on reading wikipedia. Besides Kharitonov, Carlos Baretto, Mutant Morais, Eric Pele, Thompson, Magomedov were all good wins at that time that gave and maintained Alex E. Top 10 ranking for several years.

Ngannou is now top 5 on UFC rankings, and how many good wins does he have?

Kick lands on a fat soft shoe tounge and duck tape bandages that keep shoe on, wich significantly apsorbed and softened it like a pillow. It was like big boxing gloves vs small MMA ones, or bare knuckles.
