Did the UFC Athlete Retreat 2017 actually backfire on the UFC/WME?

The UFC Athlete Retreat 2017 was supposed to be a way for UFC fighters to meet its new owners, WME-IMG. It was meant to establish a family-like relationship between UFC fighters and WME.

Ever since the Athlete Retreat, it seems like the relationship between the UFC and it’s fighters has gotten even worse.

UFC fighters are still complaining about lack of pay and respect. Free agents are still leaving the company and others are simply retiring. More fighters than ever are out of control (Conor, Volkan, Werdum, Colby) getting into trouble inside and outside the cage.

Thoughts?

A lot of fighters actually enjoyed it, some stated they learned a lot from it.

Incidentally, the most vocal cpliants came from people who either already complain a lot, or were looking for something to complain about,

I imagine it was a slap in the face to hand out Reebok coupons and have Kobe Bryant come in and give a speech about investing money when some of the fighters there were making only 10k/10k a fight before paying coaches and corner and other expenses.

But whether the fighters are happy or not it is still the biggest MMA org in the world at the moment and the fighters don't have a whole lot of other options.

There's no such thing as having a positive relationship with the UFC considering they took away a large sum of fighters earnings (sponsorship money) and that they get fined for not wearing reebok at media scrums. UFC has become reebok's bitch.

They did not take away a large sum of the fighters earning. Many fighters (ie smart ones with smart managers) still have many sponsors. Only lazy fighters with shitty management lost sponsors. Hell Eddie is sponsored by one of Reebok's competitors and still continues to be to this day. If your only value to a sponsor is pasting a sticker on your ass for a single week out of the year then you are absolutely unmarketable and have horrible management. That is your fault, not anyone else's.
