No, Max was coming off a loss against Denis Bermudez. Great fighters don't lose to Denis Bermudez.

Dennis Bermudez was 11-3 and in the middle of a 3 fight win streak in one of the best divisions in MMA. His only loss in the UFC was in the finals of the FW TUF back when that was an achievement against Brandao who was also decent. Neither are all time greats, but Bermudez wasn't crap, just not mainstay top 15 level.

Max is one of the best. The guy has been listed on the P4P lists for a reason even though he hasn;t held a belt for ages.

Also to note is Aldo went 6-6 after fighting Conor and took 2 big beatdowns from Holloway.

Think about the fact that he fought top 10 guys until he finally called it a day well after he was at his best. 25-1 before he started to lose to anyone. Finished his career at 31-8. Max got him with consecutive wins and they basically ignored the Moraes fight and treated it as a win for him and moved him forward. The guy only had consecutive losses 2x in an 18 year career and one of those almost doesn;t count. Then he manages to go down to 135 to finish his career. He easily would have beaten Pettis and been the first double champ.
