Conor McGregor Flew in Gold Medalist Jordan Burroughs to Ireland for his Camp

There is nothing to disagree about.

It's not a matter of your opinion

If you actually knew anything about fighting - or just simply asked any fighter themself, they would tell you how much easier it is to simply learn how to defend against takedowns/defend submissions on the ground, then it is to master grappling or to get genuinely good at striking

This is why a stand up based karate fighter like Gsp can become one of the best MMA wrestlers of all time in MMA...

Where as you will never ever see a wrestler ever became a GOAT stand up fighter like a Floyd/Conor etc

This is why Jones can train boxing for a decade during his UFC tenure and still have garbage boxing

Yet a striker like Lil Nog can become competent enough in wrestling in a short amount of time to be able to stuff taekdown shots from Davis and Bader with only months of wrestling specific training

This is why Khabib works hard on his striking every day and still has rudimentary striking with many massive gaping flaws

While Conor the GOAT striker in MMA was able to stuff takedowns from a pre-usada MENDES while fighting injuried and on short notice

The results speak for itself

It's much easier to learn how to defend (against takedowns/submissions) then it is to master grappling

Here is the point you need to realise, Conor doesn't have to be on Khabib's level of grappling to shut Khabib's grappling down. He just needs to know how to defend/what to look out for/how to work out of it etc

It's much easier learning the defense to takedowns/subs.

Where as, it's virtually impossible to close any gaps in striking.. because even if you learn to defend you still have to know set ups, offence, have the striking IQ and skill to still actually be effective on the feet

Where as, when it comes to grappling you don't need to outgrapple the other fighter to win, you simply need to know the defense, how to shut it down, and that's it. You can then implement your game

It's going to BE MUCH EASIER for Conor to learn to shut down Khabib's grappling and implement his massive striking advantage.

Conor doesn't need to be on Khabib's sambo level to OUT GRAPPLE him IN MMA. Conor DOESN'T NEED to outgrapple Khabib to beat him. He just needs to know the positions and defenses to shut him down - and that takes a couple weeks at most, and a couple more weeks of drilling...

People are in for a rude awakening

Theres a reason why people call boxing/striking the sweet science

If Conor vs Khabib were strictly a grappling match then maybe you would have a point and only then would Conor's grappling have to be on Khabib's level...but that isnt the case. This is MMA

@agibmxmma @GreatSaintGuillotine
Why do you keep @Ing me? I have a clear stance that this is a close fight

He just needs to know the positions and defenses to shut him down - and that takes a couple weeks at most, and a couple more weeks of drilling...

i actually had a pretty lengthy response written up until i came up to this point. this alone demonstrates the depth of your understanding perfectly. i have no idea where you live, but i honestly, from the bottom of my heart, suggest that you find a place to train and try it out. not trying to be a dick about it, i'm saying this sincerely. you'll have fun, meet new people, learn stuff. you obviously like the sport, go give it a try.

train or a couple of months and tell me how easy it is to shut down a blue belt, let alone a lifelong practitioner.

Jordan Burroughs' style is nothing similar to Khabib's, that would've made more sense in a training camp for Chad Mendes. Maybe it would've been smarter for Conor to fly in the Dagestani that dominated Burroughs in the last Olympics.

whi was that ?

It's not like McGregor is going to become a good wrestler in 2 months. Nobody is that dumb. He probably just wants to feel the strength to prepare him for Khabib's strength.

yeh i agree. i dont think he plans to out wrestle khabib, just get comfortable and work on openings.

So some asshole just made this up apparently. lol.

i disagree.

what people fail to realize is that there isn't a singular "BJJ defense" or "wrestling defense" set of techniques that will be easy to drill and give you a chance against a world class athlete performing offense in those fields. you can sprawl for 6 months, but a good wrestler will work off of your sprawl and chain their attacks until they get you. you can pummel 5 hours a day and get really good at it, but a good wrestler will trip you while pummeling, without the double underhooks.

that doesn't mean that you shouldn't learn how to sprawl and pummel. you definitely should, they're the basics of everything. what it does mean, though, is that unless you're going against someone who shoots nothing but doubles, and can't perform a clinch takedown without double underhooks, drilling those two techniques won't be enough.

there's no quick course to defending the takedowns of a world class wrestler, just like there's none to defend yourself from a world class bjj fighter. same thing with striking. they will fucking get you, so you better have some of your own offense ready. conor could very well win this, but this expectation that several weeks with a monstrous wrestler will prepare him for another (albeit to a lesser degree) beast is childish.
Conor will take Khabib down and play with him on the mat... Khabib is like a bum version of Siver

Jordan Burroughs is a really nice guy man.

Not to be a racialism guy, but he's a good role model for his community.

Single parenthood is the number one predictor for criminality, so this guy is doing well for his kids.

I think Conor can grealty improve his grappling. Unlike khabib who striking will always be limited , I thinks his body has been thru the ringer and a lot of wrestlers body get so conditioned they never establish the rhthem. U see guys like boby knuckles take down defense and wrestling become amazing. It’s the reason why dc striking defense never improved or rockhold never developed foot work . Too much wrestling can limit the body

He can fly the pope.
It won't help.

Same way if Khabib posts he flew Freddie Roach to help him with boxing.
Too close to make a difference against someone who's miles and miles ahead of them.

One way ticket to suplex city for Khabib

Wait....Am I understanding this correctly?

Dana and the UFC are paying for this guy to teach Conor wrestling?

Isn't that a conflict of interest from the company?
UFC sponsors some fighters... others they don't.
Isn't this a conflict of interest?

They don't care.

Replace Bolt with any GOAT level athlete in any sport. Hire MJ to train you in basketball. Hire Karelin to train you in wrestling. Phelps to train you in swimming. That doesn't mean shit. You're probably off training with an actual established coach than any of these elite athletes, because more often than not elite athletes make shit coaches, since they're so genetically gifted they have no idea how to train a normal person.
Lol, majority of coaches in the biggest mma gyms were competitive athletes at some stage or another, a lot of em fighting at the elite level.

Id name them but Im sure if you stepped back for a minute youd be able to name multiple athletes turned coaches.

Your comparison was bad

“That said I can fly Usain Bolt to my place to train me in 100m and I still won't beat the 14 second mark”.

Conor uses aspects of burroughs specialty in his everyday job.

Where you probably havent run a 100 metre sprint since primary school.

Catch my drift?

TDD is only a small aspect of wrestling and we've seen quite a few fighters with striking background to have mastered it (Aldo, Whittaker...). Also, it's not like Conor hasn't trained wrestling all these years and starts from scratch. Lastly, having Dillon Danis (dude is a goof, but a legit high lvl BJJ bb) as a training partner surely helps Conor when/if he finds himself on his back.

Should go to his nearest 10th planet instead of wasting time trying to get on the level of a Sambo champ in two months.

Go listen to Eddie Bravo talk about Conor's BJJ and how he asked for Eddie's best guys on the mat. Most UFC fighters just watch or won't roll.
