Media Chris Weidman compares Alex Pereira to Ben Askren: ‘It’s such a deficiency in what we’ve seen so far’

Just 2 more losses and 1 win and Chris and Anthony can have their next title shot. It's close boys. I know Pereira wants it. They can then fulfil Brandon Veras prophecy and call it a day.

weidman is such a jealous guy, alex would kick him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, but.... blachowicz had succes on the ground against alex and ankalev could very well be his kryptonite.

In other news, water is wet.

Boy, it's a good thing Chris is here to tell us what the rest of the entire fucking MMA fanbase already knew. He should change his nickname to "Master Of The Obvious".

It's not the UFC's job to specifically find someone that is tailor made to beat Pereira... it's their job to find him an opponent. It's his opponent's job to figure out how to beat him.

Maybe Chris should eat a bunch of sandwiches and go to 205 and show us all how it's done. It's awesome watching him fold and hit the canvas.

Something has gone a bit wrong with Mr Weidman's brain.

Intervention required. He needs someone to sit him down and tell him a few things straight.

I don't feel his comments are delusional. I don't feel that anything he said in the quote provided is far off. Pereira has been matched up with predominately strikers.

It's true that Alex hasn't fought any great wrestlers but there really aren't any at LHW right now. Except for Jan whose wrestling wasn't enough, his opponents all foolishly choose to fight him at his strength. As long as Poatan can stay on his feet or get back up, that's all the wrestling he really needs.
Chuck Liddel was a very good wrestler who never used it in fights except to stay on his feet. Weidman really has no idea how much Alex has improved in that regard.

Alex had fine defensive grappling against Jiri, Jan and whoever that BJJ guy was that he fought early in UFC. He's not going to run into better grapplers at 205 anytime soon.

Dude destroyed UFC Champs and he's deficient?
So what does that make the fighters he beaten???

Why are some Pereira fans so extremely thin-skinned? So often when someone starts a thread about him it's to whine about something that's not worth whining about. It's just true that he hasn't shown us any ability that would lead us to think that he could deal with a great wrestler.

Not that it's his fault that LHW has lost it's good wrestlers. The LHW division certainly isn't what it was but it's not up to him to create his opposition. He's now in the proper weight class for his size so he can just go for it.

It's wonderfully ironic with these people complaining that Weidman is saying something about Pereira because they think Pereira is a better fighter though, as it is an argument that completely invalidates all of their own opinions about anything regarding MMA.

How'd teh Chris do last time he faced an elite kickboxer with limited / doesn't give a shit takedown defense?

Oh that's right, he got knee'd into oblivion, pretended he was dead while he thought it was a foul, and once the replay showed it was legal and not a foul and the fight ended he was completely OK again! If he got wrecked by Mousasi 7 years ago it makes me laugh that he think's he's got any place to speak about Alex.

But hey, the most interesting thing about still my boy is his delusion, so.. very good. His new style of TKO by eye pokes has proven quite effective so it's possible he could work his way up to a title shot at 205.

If a wrestler can make it to Alex, great, but it's not like he's had some cakewalk. Dude has just fought Strickland, Izzy twice, Jan, Jiri, and Jamahal Hill all inside of the last two years.

It’s just perception.

You could also say Alex’s success comes from the lack of basic technique in MMA. Guys like Wiedman are so awful at basic striking a world class kick boxer can pick up the rest in a few months and win the belt in two divisions.

For the past year, I've been asserting that Pereira is a product of circumstances. When he faces a strong wrestler, even not an excellent fighter, just someone like Nikita Krylov, he'll be exposed big time. 40 years old jan post injury is the best grappler he faced and fight was close. He just needs to face a physically strong guy with relatively good grappling, and he'll be toasted

Blachowicz is physically strong and has relatively good grappling though and he passed that test.
