Chavez Jr. was paid to NOT fight

He's just not that great and is past his prime, which was never really a prime to begin with

Canelo is a great fighter

Chavez looked blah against Fonfara. When Fonfara was landing on him he clammed up too. And no one was paying him to dive against Fonfara. Canelo is much better than Fonfara.
Chavez was actually paid not to fight by the Polish Mafia.

This is a really shit thread.

He would have made that much money had he won and fought Golovkin and at least as much money had he won and taken a rematch with Canelo.

He was a fucking title holder for years he isn't some broke kid from the street as if 2 million would be life changing for him. He is the son of fucking Cesar Chavez Sr who even after blowing a lot of money probably was far from poor.

Have you seen his house in all those countdown shows?

I've never been so sure of a staged fight in my life.

1. Fight was ridiculous to make in the first place. Circus fight. They had no beef but put on a Mexican exhibition for cinco de mayo.

2. Early in the fight Chavez had canelo had him against the ropes and threw zero punches. I believe this was in the 2nd round.
3. Canelo had had nothing to worry about because chavez would not win. He had zero respect very early on.
4. After not throwing for whole minutes of a round Chavez would throw a tap of a punch and then back off.
5. Last but not least the end was planned...wtf. ggg ring entrance was all staged. The contract was signed. They knew they had all the fans watching and dropped a bomb on them. Do you really think Chavez was there to win when the contracts done lol.

Staged fight

True but he wasn't getting any big fights lately after all his bullshit. Someone asks you to take a dive for 3 mil when you're on the way out is hard to say no to

Why take 3m for a dive and lose in a way that makes it impossible to get another big fight unless you work your way back up if you can take the money from the fight plus get another fight that is worth at least 3m?
That just makes no sense.

Let alone most people who grew up with some amount of money which Chavez did even before winning a MW belt aren't that hungry for more money. Chavez isn't some poor kid who can now finally afford cool things he would have been ok had he never boxed and he made decent amounts of money before he was even 25.

Unless you pay him something in the realm of 20m it won't matter to him (most likely)

This.

It's a shame that people refuse to give Canelo credit. If that was GGG in there last night we'd hear about how Chavez was scared of his "otherworldly power" and how invincible he is. Not mention the double standard of Canelo looking multiple weight classes smaller.

Canelo hasn't hurt anyone with a pulse at MW and couldn't even ding a 34 year old blow up WW. Why would Chavez, who said GGG has much heavier hands, be scared of Canelo's power?

How would Chavez know that?

Why didn't Chavez open up at all during the whole fight? Why did he clam up and not do shit after tasting Canelos combos early? Why wouldn't someone with a size advantage over the MASSIVE (in your words) Canelo use it and put pressure on him?

It's because he didn't wanna get starched and countered into the nether world. Your Canelo hating gimmick has been stale for months. Time to switch it up.

Does this mean that all of Golovkin's blowout wins were works too? How much more competitive was Golovkin/Lemieux than Canelo/Chavez ?

It's just that you can tell David was trying. Chavez was not trying. It was a weird fight and the wwe antics at the end didn't help

Lemieux/Golovkin was at least as one sided as saturday's fight. Lemieux quit, Chavez took a beating for 12.

Chavez Jr. sparred GGG. So that's how he knows.

I don't hate Canelo - you just love him. I just state facts. He hasn't had a good win vs a fighter his size.

GGG's win vs Jacobs shits all over any win Canelo has had.

Yes but there was a level of difference between the efforts of each fight. Ggg finished the job. David tried hard

Canelo loomed to be not worried about anything without really trying to put him away and Chavez didn't try at all.

Add the wwe style at the end of the fight which was a staged confrontation. To much of a coincidence.

Also look at Chavez at the end. He was even upset. He had come to grips with this loss way before the actual defeat.

I think he underestimated canelos skill set and was afraid of his counter strikes.

This ^^...

JCC Jr. never has an opportunity to pull the trigger, cause he could see any hole on Canelo's game.
