Are Colby and Usman the new versions of Fitch and Shields?

Top notch wrestlers that can impose their game on pretty much all of their opponents. Big difference for me, and also why I think they would both beat both Fitch and Shields, is that they can also fight somewhat successfully on the feet if they have to.

I personally think that both Colby and Kamaru are better than either of them, and would decision them if they fought in their prime; they are better defensive wrestlers, and they'd be able to take either guy down more often than not, while the same wouldn't happen for Jon or Jake. So that leads me to believe that they'd have the edge on the feet and in the wrestling department.

shields beats both. fitch beats volby. fitch vs usman is equal. fitch outwrestled pretty much everyone barring gsp.

Didn't get out muscled by Palhares in the least. He was handling Palhares with little trouble other than when being blatantly fouled.

I'd have to see it again, I thought he was having some trouble with him before he started getting finger banged in the eyes

A lot of people probably need to watch that again... because there still seem to be a lot of people who count that as a legit(ish) loss for Jake and a legit(ish) win for Palhares.

Shields was winning all of the grappling exchanges handily in the first 2 rounds. Landed 3 or 4 takedowns, passed to side control 3 or 4 times. Got full mount for a while. As a strictly grappling session, Jake was outclassing Palhares.

As far as the MMA fight is concerned, Palhares was being dynamic from the bottom and landing some hard shots, yes, but even those he was setting up with eye gouges (which he started doing 40 seconds into the fight... he just became a lot more blatant about it in the second round).

In the third, Palhares set up the finish by lighting Shields up on the feet. Jake was blind by that time, though.

And that was a good version of dan too coming off a win streak consisting of Palhares, Franklin, and Bisping.

Even outside MMA, you know what Machida was doing after his suspension? getting easily submitted by Jake in a grappling tournament.

No, Shields never had a strong takedown game in mma. He got muscled around by a lot of bigger guys, while Colby has done well with strong guys and has excellent takedown game.

BS, only time he got out-muscled was against Lombard who used to toss around MWs with one hand.

I would probably put him at 2 and Hughes at 3. But the years he spent out of the UFC hurt him in this argument with many people. But he has better wins than Hughes i think.

Usman's sprawl is insane. He is athletic as fuck and I don't mean that in a funny, haha way, because he is black. I mean he is athletic as fuck, period, full stop. If he had better striking he would be a nightmare.

He does have striking it's just awkward looking he's got one of the best striking coaches in the business so I'm thinking the awkward styling could be a strategic thing his stance seems all wrong, but he does touch you with it while switching stance..?

Fitch was the second best at 170 for a hot minute... Shields is one of the best grapplers of his time. Let these kids make it to the top first...

Fitch was never the 2nd best at 170.
He fought a bunch of journeyman while people repeatedly claimed he “beats any WW not named GSP”.

Had he faced guys like Hendricks, Rory, Condit, Story, et all, he would have lost.
I bet a washed up version of BJ could have just eaten a big lunch, showed up weighing 167, and fight him to a draw, while giving up more than 15 lbs to him.
