Anyone watching the Scientology series?

Last night's episode had some things about Shelly Miscavige as well as David Miscavige's father Ron. The police won't say if they were able to talk to Shelly after Leah filed the missing persons report.

Scientology takes children from their parents. Ron said he didn't see his son for months at a time while they were both in Scientology and was glared at when he said "Hello David" one time when they met in a hallway. Other parents told of never seeing their children and heard that his son claimed to be the boy without a father. The church is their family.

They also revealed that when people sign up for Scientology they sign over all of their rights to the church. Many of the former Scientologists involved in the program including Leah Remini didn't know that.

dude did you catch the extremely awkward flirting between Remini and the old australian dude that's always on the show?

On topic I've been interested in scientology for a while now, since hearing about how fucked up they were about 7 or 8 years ago.

The only thing I wanna see Remini in currently, is a porn.

Still wood.

Interesting.

Has the show covered or looked into futher the absence/disappearance of that main guys wife?

Great link.

Been following the show.

So good. Not groundbreaking but good and I can not believe they get tax exemptions

thread bump.

I've been watching this show as it's only just airing here in Australia, and i have just seen there is to be a second season.

I've been interested in Scientology for over 20 years since I was invited into a church to do a 'personality test' as a young teen, about 13 years old. The girl that took me in was gorgeous and about 16-18 years old. She gave me a copy of Dianetics which I read and decided it wasn't for me.

I have read so many books about it since and would recommend to anyone interested in the subject...

Leah Remini's 'Troublemaker'

'The Unbreakable Miss Lovely' by Tony Ortega, the story of the first journalist to write a book on Scientology and the subsequent years. The church tried to frame her for ringing in a bomb scare to Henry Kissinger's office.

'The Church of Fear' by John Sweeney (that's the BBC journalist that had the screaming match inside one of the orgs back in the mid 2000's that got over 8 million views on youtube). I loved this book and have read it a few times, he has a very self-deprecating style of humour that makes it a fun read, he is also absolutely fearless and pulls no punches when dealing with them.

'Fair Game' by Steve Kannane which tells the story of the church in Australia which was the first country in the world to have the church classed as illegal in the 1960's in 3 states (it is no longer illegal)

''Beyond Belief' by Jenna Miscavige-Hill the niece of David Miscavige. She tells a story of being a child in Scientology growing up on the International Base and having adult roles such as 'Medical Liaison Officer' at the ripe old age of 12!! The kids all lived on a ranch and basically fend for themselves.

'Blown for Good' by Mark Headley, a former Sea Org member of 15 years that was the first to start posting truths about Scientology on the internet in it's infancy. The internet has been the church's kryptonite as it's now almost impossible to keep their secrets under wraps.

'Ruthless' by Ron Miscavige Snr. David Miscavige's father

'Going Clear' by Lawrence Wright - Later made into the HBO documentary.

I'm watching it and I just can't believe that a "church" has fees for a confessional/audit.

I can't practice scientology, I can't afford it.

You can practise Scientology for free if you join the Sea Organistion, you just need to sign a billion year contract.
Seems reasonable right?

Only a billion years?? Heck! Why even bother to unpack?!?!

for weeks i have been on a binge watching Scientology related materials on the internet, will share in detail all i've gathered so far, also i would like to point out that my scientology curiosity was sparked by Leah Remini's appearence on the Joe Rogan podcast:

Quick note: I will be using terminology used by Scientologist, i kinda catched up to it by all the hours of this shit i had been listening to

On the TV show Scientology and the Aftermath featured interviews and shocking testimonies are horrible, just for starters you get the fact that Sea Org members in the Gold Base are basically trapped and cannot leave easily, the four major factors that generate hatred and resentment, completly justified may i add, towards the church are 1) Forced "donations" to advance in your courses, 2) The "fair game" policy, created by L. Ron Hubbard to attack the attacker is created basically to not answer questions, 3) If you decide to leave the church and make comments about that the church doesnt like you will be declared a Suppresive Person (SP), this basically means you become fair game and the target of the next point, number 4) the church of Scientology has a section called Office of Special Affairs that is basically an intelligence group within the church, it employs the funds the churchs collects on its War Chest (IAS fund) to hire law firms that then hire private detectives to follow them around to monitor their activities and eventually get some dirt on them.

What i've found to be the most toxic thing Scientology does to its own parishioners its the "disconnection" policy, because once your get declared an SP the church will make your family that is still on the inside to cut all ties with you, this as the show has make evident it cut ties from fathers to children, to grandchildren, has made families breakup completly and marriages destroyed forever

Former Scientologist Youtube testimonies: mainly from Chris Shelton, Aaron Smith, Nora Crest and other i cant remember right now, these testimonies come from people who were born into Scientology, meaning they didnt have a choice weather or not to be a scientologist, this opens a door to more strange things since Scientology treats children like adults, puts them through Scientology private school, this school is not an officially advertised as Scientology but its ran by church officials and all the teachers and staff are parishioners, staff members and Sea Org recruitment staff, most of the kids dont finish school and are recruited into the church and put right to work.

L. Ron Hubbard Jr.'s (later known as Ron DeWolf) war against his father, he went on a one man crusade in the 80's writting a book unveiling the truth about his fathers and his true intentions, compared the Sea Org to the Hitler Youth, accused his father to be involved in drug deals, told the world that his father's original intentions were to scam people from their money without paying taxes, the church went against him because he was "fair game", forced his hand because he was sick, threatened him showing pictures of his kids and grandkids with time stamps on them, taken by the people who they had following them, this can break any man taking this monster on all by himself that takes giant balls, he signed a settlement and refuesed to keep talking this removing him from the public eye.

SEA ORG: This is another strange part of the story, the Sea Org was formed when Hubbard Fled the States on a cruise size ship because he was wanted by authorities in the US and several other countries so he went to high seas he then lived in hiding until he died of stroke and David Miscavige took over, here he formed the Sea Org, this organization is the core of the most hard believers, they use navy-like uniforms and work performing different tasks after signing a BILLION YEARS contract, this means they are in it until they die, come back to life in another body and so on, they get paid 50 dollars a week and live within the structures owned by the church, they operate on a para-military type structure with ranks as commanding officer at the top, the leader of the Church that was Hubbard and to this day is David Miscavige is the de facto Captain of the Sea Org and the COB (another navy related term, in the real navy is the chief of the boat) and in scientology is the Chairman of the Board, like the CEO of the church

Scientology-Motor-Vessel-Freewinds-Day-High-Angle_SLY9658.jpg

David Miscavige: This guy took over the entire church after Hubbard's death at 22 years old with a 9th grade education, as the COB and Captain of the Sea Org he controlls everything and everyone basically his two greatest achievements is the WAR against the IRS (yes they called it a war) they used mob like harassment against the IRS and its employees filing hundreds of lawsuits against them and basically forcing their hand, this getting them tax excempt status (for the second time), on the downside this guy has been accused by alot of people of destroying everything good the church had, he is a violent little man that throws people around assaults them and has his own prison in the Gold Base to punish dissidents, he is the main suspect of the mysterious vanishing from the face of the earth of his wife Shelly, she has been since very few times in public but looks incredibly bad, wonder that fucker has had done to her, i think this guy is gay also, probably sleeps with Tom Cruise.

This motherfucker even handed himself a medal LOL

Perhaps the most mysterious of this whole thing is the CST, this stands for Church for Spiritual Technology, the CST has secret VAULTS all over the world, this is the org with the less staff, these are selected from the most loyal and hardcore Sea Org members, the facilities are run by a dozen of people or maybe less and are in charge of research and keeping of Hubbards work within Bomb proof vaults built underground beneath mountains

My personal opinion so far is that this church is toxic, but if you really think about it and this church had a new leader and changed its toxic policies it could become from a little monster into a Cthulu size menace, but how different it is to the most extreme forms of religions in the world, to radical islam, to christian fanatic groups, to ultra ortothodox jews and jehova's witnesses and many others, turns out they share more in common than they are different, in the words of Jamie DeWolf who is the grandson of Hubbard: "This shows that the world has no rules, you can make anything good or evil if you force your will into it", this whole topic for me its fascinating even tho i dont follow or practice any religion because its a great opportunity to observe and study a new religion created in modern times.

Good post man, looks like you may be a little obsessed. I can relate lol

He actually gave himself an Emmy for an interview he did, that he looked absolutely ridiculous in too.

Well on the obsession part, i guess some part of me is, i think this cult is cancer but its at the same time so strange i wanna know more, i dig up and learn as much as i can, this combined to the fact that i like to learn makes me stick my face into stuff and see what lays underneath, on that aspect Scientology is incredible to study

I've watched a good bit of Scientology related videos lately including that one. I've watched a few documentaries on it as well and plan on watching the Rogan interview with Remeni next. They are all lunatics. I don't get it at all. It's incredible that people can be this gullible or be treated that way and still want to stick around.

watching it now. I am considering joining, but need to see how my finances are. Remini is a traitor
