Anyone know much about Sergey Pikulskiy? McGregor's wrestling coach?

How is the national wrestling team of Moldova when stacked against the elite? Do they have a reputation for being skilled? I know they've won a few bronze medals despite being a very small country. Couldn't find much info on the interwebs....

"Sergey trained with the national team of Moldova for 7 years and so brings with him years of experience." From SBG website.

I found this post from back in 2006. From 1996-2006 they were ranked 31 in the world.

Here's a list of the best wrestling countries. Methodology used is medals won at the Olympics and World Championships in freestyle and greco-roman since 1996. 1996 was the first Olympic year that had all of the new countries from the former Soviet Union. Since then, 36 countries have won wrestling medals. Top five countries in order are: Russia, Cuba, America, Iran and South Korea.

This is a list of rank, total medals, total points based on 3 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze and average weight in kg of medal winners. Rank tie breakers are based on gold, silver then bronze medals won.

I wouldn't base McGregor's wrestling ability on the accolades of his coach.

McGregor also has members of the Bulgarian Olympic wrestling team with him for this camp apparently.

Quite low on the list there.

It doesn't matter. DC trained with six time world champion and still got out wrestled by JJ.

Yeah but it's not like Conor needs to become an amazing complete wrestler. He needs to learn how to defend take downs as well as the likes of Aldo. Over the 2 fights Aldo had with Mendes, Mendes was only able to take him down once in 15 tries. And Aldo doesnt come from a wrestling background. He never wrestled in any NCAA program. Conor has the natural athleticism and balance to be good at defending take downs, Im sure this Maldovan guy can drill the basic techniques of how to properly defend against a wrestlers take downs into him. They have been working together since he was 16 or 17 apparently.

You mean the "better" wrestler got outwrestled by the "lesser" wrestler wrestler? Well then, Mendes better watch himself.

Head. Clean. Off.

This is mma not wrestling. Who would have thought Gus would be the first to take down JJ. Who would have thought JJ would out wrestle DC.

Moldovan wrestling isn't bad, but Murican' wrestling is up way higher in terms of talent.. and everything else

With Gus he had trained with Phil Davis which changed his whole game. I just want to get some kind of idea of the caliber of wrestler his coach his. A lot of people thought JJ would out wrestle DC as he's pretty much outclassed every opponent in every area. It was a mild surprise if any.

He's from Moldova, he wrestled in high school and maybe university. Trained with the Moldovan national team. Emigrated to Ireland and works in a software company. Teaches wrestling in SBG part time.
