Watching Major League for the 64th time last night and Tom Berenger is so good as the washed up, past his prime, underdog Jake Taylor. He holds the entire movie together and has you rooting for him the whole way

Then just a few years earlier he played to perfection the sadistic Barnes in Platoon

Who's your favorite actor or actress that killed it as both

Michael Keaton. He's done so many good guy roles and played evil in Pacific Heights to perfection.

Thought he was also a great villain type in Hatfields and McCoys.

Stephen Lang had a good variety of villainous roles, Ike Clanton, the general in stupid avatar and a few others. Has a good guy mentor role in Into the Badlands. He's had a few other good guy roles but they escape me at the moment.

Denzel. Training Day, Equalizer etc

Kevin Bacon has freed a town of its religious zealots and got them dancing again, while in another he diddles kids.

Funny that you bring up Barnes (good call, BTW) as my first thought was Willem Defoe. He was Elias. He was Jesus. He was Green Goblin. He was the fictionalized vampiric Max Shreck. And he's been everything in-between.

Paddy Considine.

When you can play both scary and pitiful you've nailed it.

Tom Cruise is practically always the good guys, but he killed it in Collateral. Also good in Interview with a Vampire.

The Tolkien based Ians, McKellan as Gandalf and Magneto, Holm as Bilbo and Ash.
