Gross income and wealth inequality is by far the greatest abomination and most pressing crisis facing the human race today. It makes climate change pale - PALE - in comparison.

The eight include six Americans, one Spaniard and one Mexican. Three of the numbered Americans are Gates, Zuckerberg and Bezos.

And the US just elected a new Upward Redistributer in Chief. So four years from now it's likely that just the six Americans alone will be able to lay claim to possessing half the world's wealth.

Edit: For those who have a problem with the article's headline (which I used as the thread title).

If I wrote, "Half of the world is female," every literate person would understand that I meant that half of the people in the world are female. It doesn't need to be spelled out.

Likewise, if one writes, "Eight men own half of the world's wealth," the implication should be that "half of the world's" means "half of the people in the world". Thus, eight men possess as much wealth as half of the world.

It's an entirely accurate statement and would be characterized as "misleading" only by someone trying to pick a fight in order to deflect from the implications of the claim.

8 men do not own half the worlds wealth. 8 men own the wealth equivalent to the poorest 3.6 billion people in this world. While still illustrating massive inequality, it is not as bad as "8 men own half the worlds wealth".

if you want to make zuckerberg poorer, convince people to agree to delete their facebook accounts, dont try to peddle laws FORCING people to delete their accounts.

Policies that increase wealth inequality. Once it gets past a certain point it can be destabilizing. Where that point is and how destabilizing it is once its reached depends on the country and political system in question.

I fear him and his ilk so much. Not because they're rich but because of the massive amount of information he and other tech billionaires have on the public. I get that he's not some diabolical mastermind but that amount of information is a very unique kind of power and you know what Uncle Ben says about power. The only way to truly solve "wealth inequality" by definition is through pure socialism.

If however, the ACTUAL problem is poverty, as suggested above, there are ways we can solve that without setting fire to the western world

Gates, Bezo's and Zuk all created a product that people wanted -- no one forced you to purchase from them. Are you saying because they built their brands successfully, they are have no right to the money that comes with that?

If you think billionaires are bad, tell people to delete their facebook accounts so zuckerberg cant steal the worlds wealth.

If you think billionaires are bad dont put any money in the stock market, and tell your 401k manager to sell your retirement account. because almost all 401k managers willingly give your cash to these billionaires to use.

and you can use that cash to give to a venture capitalist and start your own facebook. but guess what, virtually noone wants to deal with that stress.

Why is it bill gates fault that you gave him your money to type on a computer? is he supposed to make you the computer for free? you believe in slavery?
