$220 million Euros for Neymar

It's just like slavery except the slaves end up as millionaires and can stop working any time and get endorsement contracts and phat houses and virtually any bitch they want.....

but yeah, aside from that, it's just like slavery.
Laughed my ass off. Hats off to you, good sir.

The rumor is, PSG will activate Neymar's €222m buy-out clause at Barcelona.

Paying $220 million for a football (soccer) player.....It's like back in the day when people used to buy slaves. This asset is worth $220 million and only for few years.
How long is the contract? How much money is guaranteed? That's roughly $254m in US Dollars.

This isn't quite as big as A-Rod's old $262 million contract, but that was 10 years, and he only ended up seeing about half of it. Meanwhile, Steph Curry just signed a 5-year, $201m deal: the full amount guaranteed. That last part is insane-- even in basketball.

His base salary in the last year will be $45m. That's $45m, guaranteed, flat sum, w/no options requiring team co-approval.

The 220m in this case is just the transfer fee PSG would pay Barcelona. Though not sure they end up paying that much if Neymar goes to PSG.
As far his salary goes, according to Forbes he makes $12m a year at Barca, PSG would probably pay 3 times that. (Ronaldo $49m and Messi $42m in comparison)

200M is for the other team, not for Neymar, they are buying his contract of Barcelona for 200m, neymar will probably get payed 30m a year

Is it worth it? Will his addition help ratings, sell merchandise and put butts in the seats?

Overpriced. He's talented, but too emotional, and not a leader.

LOL, so Neymar doesn't even get the cash? One club literally sells him to another club?

222million Euro buy-out, agent fees, signing bonus, taxes, salary would have this deal right at about 600million over the next 5 years with close to 300 million upfront for this deal to happen.

Well, there's definitely rivers of cash flowing, but it doesn't look like the revenue split is too favorable for players in the world of soccer. Pity. Basketball players benefit from being the most popular team sport with the fewest players, essentially the second most popular sport in the world at this point, but a distant, distant, distant second. Yet they're still getting paid more.

They have something like a 50/50 split in basketball, IIRC. Their union has done a hell of a job. Cleveland making almost $9m/yr average is astonishing.

It's allways a risk to pay so much for a player. Neymar is considerated one of the top five players at the moment,so potentially they can make a lot of money of him.
I remember when Real Madrid bought Zidane in 2001(at that time considerated the best player) from Juventus for 75M €(around 92m $), only selling Zidane's Jersey Real recovered the transfer fee in 6-7 months.

Used to be a fan of Barca, still am to some extent from the Ronaldinho Deco Etoo days but the way they conduct business is slimey as fuck. Months before a window opens they put the word out to try and tempt their prospective targets before a move is even possible. They did it with Mascherano, and now they're trying it with Coutinho. Even Suarez had his head turned. If Neymar goes, Coutinho will take his place, unless Phil bags himself a homely scouse bird to keep himself grounded.

what the fuck are you talking about?
Like literally none of this shit is accurate.

Nope, that's how much his contact is worth. It's like Bellator buys Mcgregor's contract for 500 million or whatever he is worth to UFC.

No, the other posters in here who already clarified were correct. This is wrong.

So Neymar is making $203m US dollars over 6 years, on salary, or $33.9m/yr, with no mention of how much of that is guaranteed. Steph Curry is better paid ($201m/5yrs = $40.2m/yr) and 100% of his salary is guaranteed.

Its guaranteed, pretty sure of that.

Also Curry is the highest paid player in NBA yes? Cristiano and Messi make more money even if PSG pays that to Neymar (or he joins PSG). Then you got couple players making crazy money in China.

In football(soccer) they don't mention how much is guaranteed because it's always 100% guaranteed.

He's not leaving. Unfortunately.

No it's nothing like slavery...even if both clubs reach an agreement the buying club still as to reach an agreement(salary/Bonus/contract length) with the player.
If the player don't want to sign with the new club then both clubs can do nothing.

This.

lol @ comparing this to slavery. It's a mutual contract. If Neymar doesn't want to sign it and never play football again, he can choose to do that.
