Roy didnt like how they are doing things at AV's and was told nothing is gonna change. So he left.

From what I've heard from several media folks, it's fairly common knowledge that Roy is a giant asshat and has been since he was a player...so, not a surprise he wore out his welcome and likely left just before he was let go. It doesn't take a lengthy google search to see several examples of this, haha.
