1st Asian Combat Wrestling Championship (Photos and results)

You can catch in standup and finish on the ground :)
No standing submission means, you cant finish on your feet.

Wait, what if he pussy out and tap out before reaching the ground will I be DQ then? Also, not to be pedantic but if I apply a flying juji gatame then I will not be on my feet at all since those will be pointing upwards to the sky. :p

You aint gonna be in ground position either and thats where you are supposed to finish :)
Mate, no need for overcomplicating things. We hold extensive rule meeting and a ref seminar before every competition, where those details are covered and explained in details to all competitors.

If your opponent is tapping while a tanding, it means:

A. You are applying a standing submissions, which is prohibited.

Or

B. He is appealing to the refs with bad sportsmanship intend, which is also prohibited.

In the history of the Sport (about 20 years of national championships in JAPAN and 2 years of international events by FICW, such actions are extremely rare and easy to be spotted by the mandatory 3 refs.
Vast majority of attending athletes are coming with the simple plan to wrestle, pin and submit.
And I intend to keep it like that. Simple :)

I was surprised at first sight of the guy, turns out he is legit - Keith Vargo. Got his black belt in judo from Takada Dojo where he trained for 10 years, fought in amateur shootboxing and semi-pro MMA. And he's almost 50.

Sorry for the thread necro but, yeah, that was me at the CW Asian Championship. It was a great tournament and I love the rule set. Looking forward to doing it again next year, since the World Championship will be in Honjo, Japan. Gonna try both regular men's and masters, but it's probably my last year of the former. I'll be 47 the next time this tournament is held!

Last weekend, on 14th of August, in Honjo city, Japan, was held the first Asian Combat Wrestling Championship.
The event was organized by FICW Asia director, Masa Yoshizawa and with the significant help of Honjo City government.
62 participants from Japan, Korea, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, USA and Brazil met on the mat.

Once again, the event level was very high- pro MMA fighters, pro BJJ players, national and continental wrestling and sambo champions got into fierce competition for the medals in adults, master, youth and female divisions.

The opening ceremony of the event included speeches from the creator fo Combat Wrestling, Mr. Kiguchi, the mayor of Honjo City, Mr. Yoshida, local business association representatives and me.

The official full video of the event will be released in the end of this month.
And here are the official results and some of the most heated moments of the event:

Doesn't look very explosive.

Thanx Keith!
US will be coming out strong next year, looking to secure the team champion title for 2nd year in a row, with Bulgaria hunting to get that title back and of course, the host Japan will be bringing the heavy artillery.
Then you have all the other countries, who will be sending full teams (I believe England, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Korea and a few others will come with full men's category and a few masters, female and youths as well).
The individual ranking will be quite diverse, since we have over 20 countries, willing to participate.

Sounds like this is only going to get tougher, but that's the way it should be. I'd love to win the heavyweight division, but we'll see. Lots of good grapplers will be there. The only thing I'm sure of is that I'm not leaving that tournament without some kind of medal! :)
