- The above is Rueters, so hundreds if not thousands of news outlets carried the story as is, unedited throughout the world.

Simple question, would this 15 year old alleged perpetrator be treated the same way if he was any other race or had a name associated to another religion?

I can imagine many news outlets covering the shooting using this Reuters article might have considered "Ha, Suck It White 'Christians!'" before disappointedly leaving the big reveal for the prominent, uncensored picture.

I myself think murderers are too protected, even as 15 year olds. But the fact that I heard this one's identity revealed over the radio a couple of days ago leapt out at me as selective. Am I wrong?

I am legit curious. Do they normally broadcast kid murderers faces and names while they're still alleged a short while after an incident? Is this normal at all or am I asking the wrong person?
 
I think depending on the crime the shit should follow you for life.

One way or another you are going to do something in the same realm you did as a kid, as an adult. You will fuck up again, just the next time you will be better at covering your ass.

Especially these little arsonist

Well theres the Sam Hyde thing, but thats a white dude, and they fucked up the elementary school shooting by leaking the brother.

Generally school shootings seem to leak the shooter asap, I have a hard time recalling school shooters that aren't white though.

If you're referring to terrorist incidents in which a person isn't revealed it seems that they're trying to find other people who may have collaborated as well.

I was just surprised at name and picture being broadcast before any official judgment. And even then I'd expect that there are young offenders protection standards in place, but I could be wrong. And I'd expect this for all races and religions tbh. It just surprised me is all.

School shootings it seems to always happen. You may think its racial, I think its the nature of the crime.

I'm kind if thinking that might be worthy of its own thread. Interesting though.

But I'm more concerned with the age and that a rush to publicize occurred even before a judgment - with a name and picture nonetheless.
 
I honestly don't have a problem with releasing a murder suspects name whatever his age may be.

But I see your point.

Well when you drop the racial subtext of course. In my opinion it seemed a little like a veiled discussion about the media and race instead of what you just proposed.

As to the age, I don't really know. I recently watched a youtube documentary (stoned af lol) about underage offenders serving life sentences and that too is interesting, what crime is so big that we forgo their rights of privacy as a "child"?

Haven't searched but I can't remember one that wasn't white.

I've always assumed that the media knows the identity of school shooters so quickly because there's a lot of witnesses who could identify the person right away. So, for example, if it's a terror attack in a major city, your average witness on the street doesn't know the attacker's name, so the media has to wait for the police to announce it. For a school shooting, the reporters can ask a couple students, since someone was likely to recognize a fellow student, get the name, and then release it either with or without police confirmation. That's always just been my assumption, though.
