You have to keep in mind that Yan was given the Merab rematch less than 2 months ago

Yes, Merab must have went into the fight compromised for doing 4 training camps in 1 year- but you also have to consider than Yan's entire contender run leading up to this was against strikers.

He had less than 2 months to prepare for one of MMA's greatest wrestlers of all time and he managed to have a perfect response for every grappling scenario.

Yes, Merab will go into the trilogy fully recovered and refreshed, but the things in Petr's favor are:
  • Merab dealing with psychological impact of just losing his title
  • Merab having his chin and body possibly degraded after Petr's 5 round beatdown
  • Merab turning 35 years old in a month (that's like 40 years old at bantamweight)
  • Petr having a full camp to make his grappling EVEN BETTER
I still have trouble understanding how Merab is the betting favorite going into the trilogy.

It'll probably move into Petr's favor as the fight gets closer.

There's enough evidence now that Merab grapple-controlled Yan so decisively in the first match because Petr had a broken hand. The evidence speaks for itself and Joe Rogan said it himself.

He's been living in the wrestling room since their first fight you can believe that my friend.

Petr has to deal with:

Merab knowing his game plan now.

Merab knowing that he has to step up a notch to beat him (as opposed to being caught by surprise before thinking he has dominated him prior)

Merab will be stronger next fight guaranteed because he had to deal with cutting weight 4 times in a year

Yan will have more media obligations as a champion

Merab can come in with no pressure this time

The main advantage I see for Yan next fight is getting to choose a location more suited to him.

Age is basically a non factor as they are only two years apart in age.

I've got pretty severe add I'm prob not going to remember that

I think Merab's weakness to body shots was on full display as well. Yan might go there earlier.

it's obviosu what happens in the third fight. merab holds him against the fence trying to win a decision. merab knows standing in front of yan is a losing formula.

if merab doesn't get it done. aljo will come back.

well, to be fair, just because it was announced october 13th, doesn't mean they didn't book it 2-3 weeks before with both parties involved knowing of the date

i find hard to imagine Merab changing his style so drastically to come with something new in the rematch.

People act like Merab didn't start his UFC career 0-2

Merab was on the end of a brutal beat down (he even got slammed on his skull) and is 35 years old. He'll lose decisively again, the blueprint is there.

His aura is gone and Yan gets to fully prepare for his powder fists and holding Georgian style.

Whatever excuse or theory of Yan having an advantage over Merab is comical. Yan beat Merab & that's that. Move on. I hate when ppl be pulling this shit.
