Cruz and TJ, as good as they were, Yan is just a different animal. He can adapt and overcome any stylistic matchup that gets thrown his way.

That was just a phenomenal fight and I said before that I saw Sandhagen as his toughest matchup in that division due to the height and striking of Sandhagen. But man Yan's boxing was just phenomenal tonight, same goes with his body kicks and he even landed a couple of head kicks as well that were really clean.

He's the best BW I have ever seen, even tho he's not the most accomplished, it's a sad thing we might not get to see him for much longer because he's thinking about early retirement. So enjoy him while we can I say.

Skill wise I'd agree. He still doesn't have the accolades, but I haven't seen anyone at BW look as unbeatable as him

Agreed

He still has more to do to be considered GOAT, but I think he beats any version of Dillashaw or Cruz
I agree, hopefully, he gets the belt back and defends it a couple of times. He's in the same boat as Khabib, in terms of ability they are up there among the greatest of this sport, it's just about whether they accomplish enough to be seen among the greats. It's just annoying that he might retire way too early and we get another, what if he continued, how much could he accomplish kind of scenario?

Yes, he just won a fight so he is the GOAT. Typical Sherdog. Remember when Renan Barao was the 135 GOAT? lol

Cruz was much better in his heydey and wayyyyy more interesting to watch. I'll actually be glad if Yan retires, he's a boring point fighter who takes the first round off "analyzing"

And if Cejudo were still around he would beat current Yan.

Why do you think Yan will retire early? He isn’t a superstar like Khabib, he still needs to make a lot more money to be set.

How is he a point fighter? Did you not see the fight. Sandhagen deserves credit for surviving plenty of big blows coming his way he was game tonight as well. The round-off he takes analyzing helps him later on in the fight. He's the opposite of boring, but maybe you missed this fight? Or maybe you were crying for losing a big bet, I think that's what it's all about. You are betting against him and lose money, maybe a lot of money?

There was some reports suggesting Pete Yan will retire when he turns 30. This has later been dismissed by his agent. I'm guessing that's why the person you quoted said he was retiring early.

Sure, if you started watching MMA on the mgnuggets era

Cruz is the bantamweight goat still

Cruz's lack of fundamentals caused him to get dominated by Cody Garbrandt. Petr Yan's striking skill, well roundedness and fight IQ puts past BW champs to shame besides Cejudo.

He talked about retirement, but now when I google it, apparently his manager says he's not thinking about retirement. The initial statement was that he was thinking about retiring at the age of 30 y/o and opening up sports schools for children to practice martial arts. Maybe his manager told him not to say it or take it back because it might affect negotiations in the future. I don't know, but hopefully, it isn't true that he's thinking about retiring early.

Yep, I agree. He’s one of the best fighters I have ever seen in terms of how he looks in each of his latest fights. Legacies, GOATs, idk about those labels. But he’s one of the best fighters I’ve ever seen.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a bantamweight who is better.

No version of Cruz can beat this guy, even if you think he’s had a better career

Oh, I would think he wants to make a lot more money, who knows though

Ohh I didn’t know that, all these dudes think they’re gonna retire when they’re 25, when they get older they realize they need to make as much money as possible

Already knew his boxing was the best but the way he handled Sandhagen's footwork was impressive, didn't even have to lean on Sandhagen, just analyzed until he got his timing accurate.

Yan fight in a traditional Russian style with the high guard and efficient movement, I wonder how he would fair against a expertly done low leg kick game to stifle him. It would be interesting if he would resort to his grappling if he needed to and we could then see if he really is a real deal with all his MMA skills and fight IQ. For the most part, his opponents have been playing his game and I want to see how he reacts in deep waters strategy wise.

LOL yeah I bet on Sandhagen, another vastly overrated fighter because he beat a shot Frankie Edgar. Of course. Him losing to 2-years-off TJ was just the push to greatness he needed.

135 is the worst division in the UFC, there's nobody who's really good these days.

135 is among the best divisions. I would say the best divisions in UFC are 135, 145, 155 in no specific order. To me, that is where we get to see the highest level of MMA. The reason why you are mad is that you are betting money. That's why I don't bet money anymore because it just makes me mad afterward if it doesn't go my way. And when you lose you forget to appreciate what you actually witnessed, then it's more about making money than just the passion of MMA.

I didn't bet any money you dork, lol. Yan is overrated and boring, Sandhagen is overrated, the whole division is overrated.

Kyoji Horiguchi comes back and clears out the division. Hell prime Bibiano Ferndandes clears it out but he's 40 now.

Why are you so angry? Clearly, MMA is not for you when you get this emotional. It's supposed to be fun to watch, otherwise why even bother?

Man some people are weird...
