I found this rare footage of current UFC judge certification in action.
 
I think we should have 11 judges ringside (11 scorecards).
 
Everything else is Americanised dramatisation at this point so why not.
 
You don't hear the breakdown of the scoring, though, which you do when they read out split decisions now. So you don't get the extra contrast of just how badly a judge got it. Depending on the fight, you could give the judge holding up a questionable name the benefit of the doubt by assuming his scoring just barely edged one over the other. But if you hear that Doug Crosby gave the loser a 50-45 card, that's a whole new level of derision you have access to.
 
Judges should be watching the fight on a monitor so they all can all see the same thing and have a better view of the fight.

The judges sitting at ringside have a worst view of the fight than we do at home. Action could be happening at the opposite side of the octagon, referees can get in the way, etc. but they are given the task of ultimately deciding the results of a contest…
