Television WONDER MAN (Premieres Jan. 27; Dragonlord's Reaction, post #92)

Some stuff was, some stuff wasn't. Does not change the fact that a lot of it has sucked and has been underwhelming on Disney.

Have to agree. I'm an OG; watched Iron Man in the cinema, summer of '08 and knew I was going to be on this ride until it finished. But Phase 4 has been underwhelming, to say the least. With the exception of Far From Home, every movie has been mediocre or worse.

Gentlemen, @Dragonlordxxxxx already had to clean up the She Hulk Thread after it devolved into political shit-posting. Don't make him do the same here. He's a good egg, but if you try his patience, he may start handing out Thread Bans.

Just some friendly advice;)

You don't even know what woke means.
This is woke...

It was just that it was woke pandering to men (same reason most tv wives with average husbands are hot) and people just do not notice woke pandering when it is done to them.

When I was 12-15 I felt really extra super perverted and guilty for spanking it to Tigra art. But that didn’t stop me from doing it.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Talks to Star as Simon Williams in Marvel Studios' WONDER MAN TV Series

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is making his Marvel. The actor, who is already known to comic book fans as DC’s Black Manta in the Jason Momoa Aquaman movies and for his memorable role in HBO’s Watchmen, is in talks to star in Wonder Man, Marvel’s latest Disney+ series.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, a writer-producer on comedies such as Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community, are spearheading the series. Guest is head writer of the series, while Cretton will exec produce and possibly direct an episode or more.

Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s oldest characters, first introduced in 1964 in the pages of Avengers No. 9. He was initially a villain and only appeared sporadically in the early Marvel Age, but was reconceived as a hero (and Avenger) in the late 1970s.

In the 1980s, the character really came into his own. Known as Simon Williams, he was a founding member of the Los Angeles-based West Coast Avengers and, with a look that included a turtleneck, a red jacket and sunglasses, became a celebrity thanks to his day job as an actor and stuntman.

The character also developed strong ties to classic (and now, thanks to Marvel movies and an Emmy-winning series) globally known characters Vision and Wanda/Scarlet Witch. Stories tied him to the android via ionic energy and brainwaves that implied the two were akin to brothers. Wonder Man even developed feelings for Wanda, after Vision had been dismantled.

The hero has been white in the comics, and the casting of Abdul-Mateen is the latest example of colorblind casting, something Marvel has consistently practiced, from Nicky Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan).

Takes on the character for the Disney+ series were not revealed but there certainly are clues. Evan as Marvel searched for its hero for several months, it tapped Ben Kingsley to reprise his scene-stealing role as struggling actor Trevor Slattery, suggesting that the series could offer a look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Hollywood.

(And seeing as Hollywood is in Los Angeles, could LA attorney Jennifer Walters, AKA She-Hulk, pop up? Marvel isn’t one to pass on such an opportunity.)

Abdul-Mateen last appeared opposite Jake Gylenhaal in the Michael Bay action movie Ambulance and appeared in The Matrix Resurrections and Candyman before that.

He is due back as Black Manta in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Warner Bros.’ DC movie that won’t open until Dec. 25, 2023.

Meh. So far, with the notable exception of Werewolf by Night, Marvel's TV shows have been mediocre. At best. So it's hard to get excited about this one.

Not trying to stir up a hornet's nest here, but I wouldn't make him black.

Having both Power Man and Wonder Man be brothers seems like a bad idea.

I don't mind the black casting. He should wear a wig though. I miss perms

Blue Marvel
Luke Cage
Brother Voodoo
Blade
Bishop
Patriot

That's just off the top of my head...

Didn't care about Wonder Man before.

Don't care about race-swapped Wonder Man now.

The wokies can have him.

What you are feeling now is indifference. You don't care about the character in the first place. So all of this is just "meh".

Unfortunately, people who have the same attitude as you won't be feeling the same way one year from now when the first trailer hits or when the show airs. One year from now, these people who have a meh stance will be manipulated into a hateful rage by the YouTube outrage channels they frequent. These channels will magnify every little thing and blow it out of proportions. Soon, those people who were just meh on the show will come back here and post videos of their favorite hate-mongering Youtubers.

My hope is that some of these people will realize that constantly being bombarded with hateful point of views every single day will realize what's happening to them and realize it's not healthy and just cut down on these type of content or just walk away from the vicious cycle.

There is also a 100% chance of review-bombing.

I'm feeling like that about the MCU as a whole.

I don't 'Copy' the subtitles of YouTube videos and 'Paste' them here as if they were my own opinion.

When I see a YouTube video I agree with I post it here.

In fact I've heard absolutely nothing about Wonder Man anywhere other than this thread.

You mean 'Why won't fans stop falling for fan-baiting?'

Fan-baiting is when production companies purposely make decisions to make changes to the source material in adaptations in the attempt to strawman all critics when the final product is released.

The fans aren't the problem.
