Yes, call it a lame thread if you please. Misspelling in thread title, meant to be "attire".
Anyway, I was wondering. There are basically three types of upper body women's attire in MMA that I am aware of.
The, for want of a better term, "sports bra" kind:
The fully covered variety:
- and finally, a combination of the two:
Not forgetting Ronda's low cut spin on the first type just for good measure:
My questions:
Why do women fighters prefer one style to another?
Do any of the styles have distinct advantages/disadvantages with regards to grappling, for example?
My thoughts/ideas... Why would you choose to wear the fully covered style? Surely it gives you a form of disadvantage with regards to grappling as your opponent has increased grip. Could this be due to body image concerns? Probably not, as all female fighters are of course fit and healthy and have far from average looking bodies!
I'm probably thinking about this way too much but I can't sleep and would appreciate Sherdog's thoughts.
