Women will receive an extra $3000 to $6000 more than men in apprenticeship grant money in Canada

$8000 for men who undergo voluntary castration and agree to euthanasia at 60 to help with the old age pension crisis.

No surprise.

Discrimination is perfectly legal in Canada, as long as it is to make up for past practices.

I've had two female apprentices (both good trades people) and am seeing more and more women in the trades. Particularly electricians and welders.
Sounds like a 1980's heavy metal video waiting to be made..

And fuck this grant bullshit. How about just pushing skilled trades in highschool, rather than reserving them for kids who start failing out.

Just by the fact that you have a vagina (or have convinced yourself that you do), you can get up to an extra $6000!

Let's see the same type of things for male nurses/social workers/porn stars...

I can’t imagine being butt-hurt over that amount of money. That’s about 2 months pay.

I hope it works to recruit more women, but honestly, that amount of money is unlikely to attract women to trades they were not interested in before.

I support the idea of government programs to get more women into those kinds of careers.
You are losing a lot of good workers if you don't fully recruit from the female population.
Same goes for males in healthcare or education jobs.

That being said I don't think this is the right way to do it. Seem unfair to all the guys doing the same job.
That's my take as well. I'm not even sure if this action is better than no action, but I'm not sure it isn't either.

Nothing screams equality quite like favoring one sex over another.

Such progress.

Surely everyone could just identify as female for the grant

someone had to say it

It says right in the terms of conditions that in order to qualify for the grant you simply have to "self-identify as a woman". Being a biological woman has nothing to do with it.
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person;
  • not be a high school student;
  • self-identify as a woman;
  • have the required AIG-W supporting documents;

If you're a male in the same apprenticeship I'm sure it makes a huge difference and is a slap in the face - especially when men constantly hear about a wage gap.

Just another example of liberals looking for ways to spend tax payers' money.

We need more tradespeople so its not horrible. Only mildly rustled.

At least it appears the targeted women will stay here, as opposed to all the Chinese and East Indians in our university ssytem taking spots and money from Canadian, who plan to move back to their own nations.

They already get more grant money for everything else.

I hate the government. They're rapidly destroying our culture and future.

I've noticed an uptick in the number of both female carpenters and female welders.

My buddy has two girls welding for him and a female acquaintance of mine has a pretty lucrative custom cabinet-making business where she has more female than male carpenters working for her.

My dad and I co-own a fence installation business on the side, we used a few of her female carpenters when short on guys to help work fence jobs this summer. Couldn't carry lumber, bags of concrete, or hand mix concrete to save their lives... but they did help put together some really nice custom woodwork/fence designs that us gross-motor-skill guys would've probably hacked together not so prettily.

I think it's great, more people in general need to start working with their hands. But, I think this extra grant money just because you're a woman bullshit is absurd.
