Got some Winning gear in today.

MS600-B boxing gloves, 16oz
FG2900 headgear
2 pairs of the VL-B handwraps

Haven't trained with them yet so no review per se, but here are my initial impressions for anyone interested.

1. I know this has been said before, but the overall appearance is rather underwhelming given the cost. Seemingly low grade laces on the headgear, excess leather on the inside of the gloves both jumped out at me immediately.

2. The handwraps are great, they felt extremely firm but comfortable - significantly better than the Rival mexican handwraps I'd been using.

3. The headgear is extremely light, and extremely comfortable.

4. The gloves are absolutely huge! They are very comfortable and are indeed really soft (the reason I purchased them, for sparring) but they are much much larger than the Fairtex BGV1s I've been using -see photos below.

5. One thing that I'm not too pleased about is that it appears I've been sent an old stock version of the FG2900 headgear, as mine does not have the improved eardrum guard as per their website. :icon_conf I plan on taking that issue up with them (him) tomorrow.

6. On a related note, communication via e-mail with Winning USA was good and shipping was very quick once the order was placed.

I've added some photos below to contrast the Winning and Fairtex gloves.

Hope some of you find this information useful.

i just received a set of mexican market Reyes gloves and head gear and would make a review thread but im on dubs.

Holy Giant Gloves Batman!

Thanks for that comparison pic with the Fairtex, that was really helpful.

i do not think the gloves are huge, you just have small thai gloves that you are comparing to boxing gloves....

which size is the headgear and what does your head measure? or let's keep it simple ... which size do you wear in new era caps?

would help me a lot, because i'm gettin the winning headgear too as soon as i'm back in cali!

i'm not sure whether i sould go with L or 2L ...

thx

If you are looking to find YOUR SIZE go to the website and on the headgear page he put up the sizes so measure your head and see what you need im not sure this would be a better way to find out YOUR SIZE...

also what do you mean about your headgear isnt the improved eardrum they have been with the improved for awhile now??

True, I am comparing them to the Thai gloves which are admittedly compact, but the Winning gloves are really quite large in all respects - including the hand compartment - and I have a good sized fist.

I chose a Large, but as mentioned below your best bet is to simply use a tape measure to measure your head and use the corresponding chart to find your correct size.

I'm not sure how long they have been making them with the improved eardrum guard, but what I can tell you is that my eardrum guard looks nothing like the one in the photo on the site. Instead of protruding from the headgear and being shaped somewhat like a horseshoe, mine is almost flat and round like is like the one on the H-1600 model. If interested, you can see what I mean here:

Winning Products

I can only assume that this is an old version of the FG-2900 model.

I contacted Kazumichi at Winning USA about the issue and I'm waiting for a concrete response.

Thats strange there are a couple guys that have them that come in later in the day ill look at theres and see but im sure its like the pictures of the 2900...

It is strange, and the communication from Winning USA is suddenly not the best now that there's an issue.

I'll post a pic of the headgear later today to show what I mean.

(edit)

This is what I ordered:

As you can see, there is an unmistakable difference in the eardrum protection between the two models both in terms of size/thickness and shape of the padding.

Still waiting on Winning USA to get back to me on the issue. It's now going on 2 days since I brought it to their attention.

.

maybe they just haven't updated their pics on the site since the last batch they made i see the shape is a bit different and the thickness from the pictures but they might consider this a minor issue. i know I just deleted half my sites photos to get ready for my new batch of gear coming at the end of summer just to make sure no buddy has a reason to have an issue. I noticed that even when i tell manufactures to make me the same product as last time no changes there are minor changes to that product like little cosmetic changes with the thumb lock etc. but as i look at the photos you posted cutting down on the thickness of the ears to seems more then just a cosmetic change. But what do i know that is just one dudes opinion.

as for customers service issue maybe winning USA is trying to track down the issue for you, before getting back to you. as i've heard nothing but good things about their customer service and so it should be as they sell high priced gear.

i looked last night and the guys at the gym they have the exact same ear padding as you..

Thanks Mike, your explanation above regarding design variations seems to make sense, given what hamad_aj and POINT312 had to say. The ear protection does look very different from the official photo in terms of padding thickness (and mine seems also less "padded" than hamad's) but it would appear that that's a slight variation and not a different product.

hamad_aj and POINT312, thanks for the feedback.

How's the length on those wraps? I have 180 inch wraps and I think in another thread someone said the one's you have are only about 90inches.

you got the right headgear. the improved ear drum is that strip running across it

VL-B bandages/handwraps are 180"
VL-C bandage is 90"

I have both.
They are made out of different material.
They both feel like gauze and both are stretchy, but the VL-B has more of a cotton feel to it.

I prefer the VL-B, and would recommend it more than the VL-C.
The VL-B is better for wrapping your hands since its longer, so its very good for training.
