That was for leverage against Ngannou. Francis kod Stipe in the rematch so they needed somebody new to promote who’d never lost to Francis that they could claim Francis was scared of. They sacrificed stipe to give Jones the bragging rights

In terms of title defences he is but in terms of win streaks and how guys were performing at the time of the fights I'd say JDS had the best run, longest win streak in the UFC HW division, won the belt and beat Cain, Werdum and Stipe.

man that was SO satisfying. after all the buildup, all the "Ngannou hits like a Ford F-150" talk, the disrespect by not even mentioning he could break the HW defense record, Stipe just pulls a Roy Jones "y'all mustve forgot" and 50-44's the UFC's new hopeful poster boy. then takes that belt right out of the Pink Goof's hands and puts in the hands of someone who actually supported him.
after in the press conference when he said "i respect people who respect me", absolute chad shit. its still one of my favorite championship fights and moments.

HoF is all political and I think him and the higher-ups didn’t get along.

Michael Bisping is in there, so is Cowboy… neither are extreme talents, but they toed the company line. Stipe is not someone built for the corporate world.

I think it’s fairly obvious given Stipe’s record at heavyweight, but Dana has clearly disliked him ever since he complained about his pay against Overeem and then refused to let Dana put the belt on him after he beat up Ngannou.

I think in this case Dana will likely have to let it go, as there’s value in recognizing Stipe as the UFC’s heavyweight goat, especially with Francis blacklisted and Jon jones likely only fighting once more if he gets the White House main event.
