With so much talk of JBJ possibly retiring soon, I gotta suspect he won't stay retired for too long. So few fighters graciously go out once and for all, and I imagine he is more addicted to the rush than most.

Thoughts?

He won’t come back. His legacy* is too important to him. Which is a joke considering his legacy is 0 - 1 - 28*

He ducked DC and Ngannou at HW, and said so. Refuses short notice replacements. Only signed the contract against a guy with no TDD to speak of. And is trying to interlope on, and appropriate the UFC HW GOAT’s legacy.

No he won’t come back. He won’t take that risk.

I think if he wins he will retire from fighting for good
Nothing left to prove in the Octagon
At least after retiring, he will be able to spend more time helping others around the world, donating to charity, spreading the good word of Jesus, being an amazing husband, inspiring others.

Lol dude is an undefeated multi-division champ, only person to beat him is himself. His legacy is massive

At lhw he has nothing to prove anymore.
On the contrary, Pavlovich and Aspinall - cause we dont have Francis anymore - are decent challenges at hw.
Beating Gane and Stipe would be good but nothing "definitive", especially considering Stipe is half retired already.

He can pick up a win against spivak after spivak beats 2 more fat guys, then maybe tybura, tuivasa when he goes on a 3 fight win streak against guys outside the top 10.

“Dude, look at all these wins, they’re literally all top 10 guys which means they’re great!”

This isn’t even a jones thing but does anyone actually think a title win at heavyweight is the same as a title win at lightweight for example? The fact that Derrick Lewis fought for a title, against another fat guy, is the ultimate proof of how shit heavyweight is. Has there ever been a champion that looked like DC in any of the lighter divisions? I personally can’t think of any, maybe I’m wrong but I doubt I am, I really doubt I am

Probably depends on this true financial situation.

It's one thing to say your fine when you know you can go compete at any time and make bank, its a whole other ball game when that option doesn't exist anymore. The dude has had as many years off almost as years competed in the UFC. He had to burn through a lot of money during that down time. Won't shock me if he looks at fighting two or three more times after Stipe as easy money and actually fights.

I don't know how his retirement will work in terms of his contract with the UFC. IIRC, he signed a new multi-fight deal with them just recently, so there's probably non-compete clauses in there that would prevent him from fighting elsewhere once he retired from UFC (as long as there are still fights on his contract).

All this to say - I do think he'll retire from UFC pretty soon. I also think he'll return to competition (in UFC or elsewhere) not too long after that. The Ngannou fight is always there for him, and with the recent influx of Saudi money into the PFL, he may be willing to wait 3-5 years and then show up to collect that paycheck there.

no reason for him to. I don't think anyone will beat his resume for a long long time. Pretty much everyone else has lost a fight.

Even at HW there is a good chance that Gane beats or does very well against Pav and Aspinall. Which will only improve Jones resume.
Jon has lost a fight regardless of how it happened it’s still an L, sit down rook.

He almost certainly won't come back. If he wins, he'll have a near perfect record and 16 title fight wins, which is the most by a comfortable margin. Nothing else to prove.

He didn't fight HW DC but to say he ducked him is a bit nuts. DC was the same size at Heavyweight as he was at 205, dude cut a shit ton of weight.

You think people will pay to see a 43 year old Francis ngganou fight? People didn't pay to see a 36 year old KO artist ngganou fight.
