I'm setting up a home gym for Muay Thai and only have room for one bag. I'm trying to decide between a 6' banana bag or a standard heavy bag. I like the idea of a banana bag for practicing low kicks, but I'm worried that it won't work well for punching.

Is anyone using a banana bag as their primary punching bag? How is it working for you?

Also, if I get the banana bag I'm debating between a 6'x12", 100 lb bag, a 6'x13" 130 lb bag, or a 6'x14", 150 pound bag. Think the extra width would make a difference in how well it works for punches?

If you could only have one bag to train Muay Thai, what would you get?

You can punch one no problem, as for the weight, it depends on your weight. I would go with the 130-150lbs bag.

I use a banana bag at my house everyday as well as a teardrop bag and a regular 100lb heavy bag and they are all fine for punching and kicking. I plan on buying an angle bag soon like the one Titlemma has. Depending on how much you weigh I would recommend the 150lb bag. I have a 40lb,80lb, 2 100lb Heavy Bags and a 100lb Banana bag and I plan on getting a 150lb bag because the thai banana bags are 150lbs at my gym and I love them!
But anyways, I love the banana bag for punching and kicking! I can really rock the shit out of the bag when I mix up punches and kicks haha

Of course they work. They move slightly differently and you should get a heavier one than the standard heavy bags

We have a few at the gym that I train at. You can punch but it's not effective for just pure boxing. If you're a hard hitter, I would recommend a standard 100lb punching bag.

I have grown to dislike banana bags, I love tear drop bags and regular heavy bags. It feels better for mid-kicks, boxing, elbows, kneeing, and head kicks. However, you can't practice leg kicks.
