Vettori was a pretty lopsided favorite in the poll on here... For the people that picked Vettori, Why??? I didn't understand it before the fight and still don't understand it now. Sure he has an insane chin but how did you think he was going to beat Cannonier? Cannonier did much better against Izzy and Whittaker than Vettori did (excluding Vettori's 1st fight against green Izzy where he wrestled him).

On another note Cannonier looked better than ever and smashed the significant strikes record for a Middleweight fight.

Sherdog gonna Sherdog

People might’ve thought Cannonier had plateaued as a fighter, but he’s actually gotten better.

Timely wrestling, output, and cardio all took immense strides for this fight.

Could present a new threat to Izzy in a potential rematch.

Vettori in theory could've clinched and wrestled earlier.

Watching Vettori easily get up and grapple with Cannonier but not try to offensively wrestle was weird. I still think Cannonier wins but Vettori without a doubt had tools to make this closer and it would've been hard to predict he was going to strike at range all fight long. Vettori's stand up looked improved but obviously Cannonier is by far the better striker.

Because Vettori at the time seemed like he had better cardio and more volume (which if you look at previous fights, he does).

He definitely had the better chin and still does. He also has the edge in wrestling.

He doesn't hit too hard but most people thought he would eek out a decision win.

I don't know why. I voted for Cannon. Vettori just isn't technically good enough to beat the top guys and it shows every time he fights them. Just takes 10 million punches for 5 rounds. His striking has improved as it showed in the 1st round of tonight's fight, but once Jared got going that ended quick.

Cannonier didn’t look any better vs. Izzy. Both of these guys walked into the octagon against Izzy mentally defeated and it showed. Neither did better than the other. Both sucked.

Vettori seemed sapped after that initial barrage, but did find a reserve. He's known for pressure and pace, and that likely played into it. But it was really the pressure and pace of Cannonier that was the story. I was pretty split of the outcome prior because of Cannonier's potential to end it early vs Vettori's pace. So the actual outcome surprised me a bit.

I mean aside from Glover nobody has been able to control Cannonier for that long and that fight was at 205. Only fights where Cannonier was taken down and actually lost were against Glover and Blachowicz. He was taken down in 5 other fights and a combined 14x in those fights but won all of them.

He looked much better against Izzy and way better against Whittaker. Izzy was just edging rds by a bit against Cannonier but Vettori was getting worked. For the Whittaker fight Vettori was a heavybag much like he was in this fight.

Honestly one of his best performances to date. He really put it all together in this fight.
