Why?

McGregor already beat Poirier, soundly. Sure the fight was at 145lbs but like I shared, it was a decisive win for McGregor.

Why has he chose Poirier? Is it for obvious reasons: McGregor thinks he can beat him again, easily? Does he believe this is a "guaranteed" win because Poirier will likely want revenge against him whilst attempting to ko the man?

Or is there something else here that I'm missing?

Because they want to make sure he gets fighters that they know he can beat, to justify another bogus title shot and all.

Not a guaranteed win by any means, but they know Dustin will just box with him so he’s a favourable stylistic matchup, plus he can get into Dustin’s head and they know that he has the psychological advantage by already beating him the first time.

because a win over poirier proves about as much as you can prove besides beating khabib--pretty obvious. gaethje just lost badly. poirier put up a better performance and has beat hooker as well since but neither of them deserve the belt bc they both lost clearly to the champ not too long ago. so they will have to win 1 more for this belt--again call me captain obvious

Cause Dustin sucked up to him and ufc enough to get a red panty night? Fighting Connor is a career defining moment and you are financially set for life after. Dustin must have done enough to earn it. Plus his last fight was good. Unlike Justin or tony who both lost miserably

Same reason they had him fight Donald...Taylor made for Conors style. With Khabib retired and most likely no chance at a GSP bout they need their money man back stat to kick off post (not quite yet but hopefully close) pandemic earnings for the company. Dana not as stupid as he looks and acts

alot of decent answers.

but nobody has mentioned the obvious one.

because habib said he wouldn't rematch conor till he got passed dustin,

basically khabib called the shot, then retired after conor accepted the dustin fight.

They fought 6 1/2 years ago at a different weight, and Dustin is now the higher ranked fighter. He's a top 5 opponent who will box with him. Seems like a no brainer.

See, answers like this are plausible. Good memory and analysis of the situation.

I remember reading this as well but I didn't really take Khabib seriously about this. But most of what Khabib had said is very serious.

Yes, it does seem like a no brainer.

There's always a catch though. And all the simple answers are posted and then some.

Dustin just fought for the belt and also had a barn burner with hooker. Before that he was on a good streak.

a win over poirer for conor basically makes him champ imo. And I hate that idea.

So I think poirer at lw is a different beast and should dismantle conor and finish him within 3.

I think McGregor puts away Dustin inside of two rounds. And perhaps we see a rematch. Just my opinion.
