When an athlete or a team starts to become dominant in their field, the fans of other teams and athletes will start looking for an answer to derail the hype. This is the first challenge. Failing that they will start looking for the right mix of skills to defeat the dominant athlete or team. This will continue until one of three things occurs:
The dominant athlete loses. At which point they were never that good anyway, and were just all hype.
The fans will start looking for any reason to discredit the athlete. No allegations are off the table here, we can say they are boring to watch (Mayweather), unfounded steroid claims, or create cheating scandals.
or
The fans will accept them as a great, and just not appreciate them as an athlete or team.

The third option is where I have ended up on GSP, but to be honest most of what I see on Sherdog is the first two. Now with regards to people who have been GSP fans for decades, this does not apply to you, only to us haters.

I don't get it either

That guy is a role model
never did anything wrong

Most title fights in UFC history
what more do you want from the guy?

Geez....

He is a threat to potential GOAT status of other's favourites. Plain and simple.

Mostly because he's boring and even admitted he wasn't interested in anything but taking away the other guys ability to fight

GSP robbed MMA fans of the most interesting and organic superfight between two dominant champions from the SAME ERA.

Only to spit in the faces of middleweights everywhere by jumping the line to face a weak champ in a forced superfight no one ever clamored for at any point during gsp and bispings primes. And then immediately vacated instead of facing whittaker.

Besides that I don’t have any problem, he was a great fighter and an elite tactician.

Wan time...me an-an-an Rashad...

We-we driving down the road...and on da...da horizon...

I see a...a UFO.

GSP left his haters with their dicks in their hands, waiting for that inevitable and shoopable KO moment that nearly every fighter faces at the end of their career. He blue balled them, pathetic bums that they are.

That's why GSP is the true GOAT. He dominated his haters as much as he dominated the competition. The ones he never won over... he will live in their heads rent free for eternity.

I'm a gsp hater. I think he is an awesome human being and has all the talent in the world. I hate the way he fights. Period.

His voice triggers me. I used to have an equalizer setting on my surround sound just for him because he's so treble-heavy

In his prime his dominance was so overwhelming that it wad repetitive

In some fights you could just watch the first 3 minutes and know that's how the entire fight would gonna go, same combinations feints and setups with slightly different application.

It's not his fault though, they should have stopped him

The way he fights can be a bit boring at times.
But I don't really get it either.

He's not a just bleed god. Not many highlight reel KO's. People don't like ground control fights where he just blankets people.

Why people hate on Fedor, Anderson, Jones, and Aldo?

As said in this thread, my issues with GSP...

* Play-it-safe WW title defense run
* Ducked Anderson superfight for years
* Waited patiently for Bisping to have the MW strap to challenge him and then toss the belt immediately after winning it
=======
Bonus round...
* Cheated and got away with greasing
* Anti-PEDs stance, but mysteriously steps away for years as USADA partners with UFC

Truth is, I believe he had the most potential to be an MMA demigod if he didn’t limit himself with playing it safe for years.

I think maybe it might be because of the really tight pair of men's underwear he wears into the octagon. To be frank, I was not impressed with his pair for man's.
