When an athlete or a team starts to become dominant in their field, the fans of other teams and athletes will start looking for an answer to derail the hype. This is the first challenge. Failing that they will start looking for the right mix of skills to defeat the dominant athlete or team. This will continue until one of three things occurs:
The dominant athlete loses. At which point they were never that good anyway, and were just all hype.
The fans will start looking for any reason to discredit the athlete. No allegations are off the table here, we can say they are boring to watch (Mayweather), unfounded steroid claims, or create cheating scandals.
or
The fans will accept them as a great, and just not appreciate them as an athlete or team.
The third option is where I have ended up on GSP, but to be honest most of what I see on Sherdog is the first two. Now with regards to people who have been GSP fans for decades, this does not apply to you, only to us haters.
