Why Is Tony Ferguson Still Fighting in UFC?

He's not now. I can pretty much guarantee you that. Dana wasn't going to come out and fire him after the fight if that's what you had in your mind.

I just watched this now, so Tony is 0-9 in his last 9 fights. If Dana does not cut him now, I would be shocked.
They gave Chiesa a sacrificial lamb. Justin made Tony a zombie. He was never the same afterwards.

Umm..Tony made Tony a zombie…all those years of punching metal and elbowing steel pipes plus his crazy diet(s) and mental issues caught up to him.

El CooKoo needed to hang em up a while ago

Justin discombobulated him visibly!

He isn't getting re-signed. You'll probably see him in BKFC or boxing a YouTuber within the next year or so.

Honestly, that’s the only reason he hasn’t been cut yet and may somehow avoid it. Dana knows Tony is still a name that will sell even outside the UFC, like Diaz, and he figures, why should any other promotion get that money?

He was 25 and 3 until 2020 when he lost to Justin. Very very strong record up until that point. After that point he only got KO twice and has still been fighting middle to top tier guys. I think he should retire now at 40 but I give him all the respect.

He’s an extremely popular fighter whose name is synonymous with the ufc & who keeps asking Dana for fights. It’s BJ Penn all over again. But yea someone in the company has got step up & shut this down.

He's only 8-0 he still has alot of fuel in the tank

I was thinking about this and Tony has solid points on being screwed out of the Undisputed Title several times, while bailing out the UFC as Interim Champion and willingness to be the main event in the pandemic.
Obviously the Gaetje fight did a lot of damage but he was already aging out of the upper echelon of lightweight by that time and should have had his undisputed title shot at least 3 or even 4 years earlier.
As eccentric as Tony is, I have no doubt he would bring this up right to Dana who probably does feel as if he owes Tony some type of retirement package that he just can’t be giving out to every fighter

They only cut scrubs and guys they don't like after 3 losses. They don't cut a guy with a good following who was once on a 12 fight winstreak inside the promotion. There are many examples... Cerrone, BJ Penn, Arlovski (lost 5 in a row), Condit, Silva and of course the unexplainable Sam Alvey. If you had good success in the promotion, have a following and aren't demanding a raise.... They're not going to cut you.

Yeah it's sad. I'm ready to cheer for him but when Chiesa entangled him you could tell immediately the fight was over. It was just too easy, no resistance. I'm fine to see him hang the gloves up.
He crumpled like an old man, I was counting down to the finish. Actually happened quicker than I thought.
