Why is Dana rushing himself into a big money contract with Chimaev?

The guys hype now is realistically not much different than it was after his first fight with UFC.

That is now 2 more low cost fights used up before Dana has to sign him to a big multifight deal.

Seems weird, business wise.

Only thought is that maybe like young Tyson, they run him out once a month because they are afraid he will get into trouble?

I don't get what the rush is....

The UFC is desperate for stars. They won't suffer from giving him a solid contract after those build-up fights.

Almost no one cared about him after he won the first fight, he became the biggest prospect in the UFC after he won the second fight 10 days later, now he has a massive amount of attention because he won his third fight in like 2 months. 90% of his marketability comes from him fucking up fighters in quick succession. Once he wins a few more, and takes out a high profile name, Dana can pivot Chimaev from being that guy who crushes mediocre fighters in quick succession, to being a legit undefeated contender and potential Khabib 2.0 with better striking and a more exciting style. That’s another marketable angle. But we’re not there yet.

The current list of big names arent actually fighting that often. In short the more name recognition you can inject into each ppv for casuals the better, so its key that dana locks down khamzat

Dana has fuck you money why would he ever care who they throw money at

Also, if the ufc is inking someone to a big contract obviously it's good business for the company. Pays for itself.

He should get a raise to 24/24 imo.

anything higher is just absurd.

To me, if Dana is saying that kind of thing, it means he feels he can control the man and keep him for a good price/persuade him of stuff. Otherwise he might downplay him. It’s all about getting fighters cheap , not trying to hate.

He would be an idiot if he accepted that.

that's absurd...
For all we know he could not be as good as everyone thinks. He could lose every Upcoming fight on his renegotiated contract so you don’t want to give him and ufc would look stupid going an unproven fighter more money.

look at O’Malley saying pay me and then getting finished in his next fight.

Have you noticed the attention on this guy? He has already surpassed Zabit in popularity.

Because of everything he does. Getting more PPV buys. Money. Chinese, russian and muslim market.

Yeah but zabit isn’t that popular nor is he really that good.

Ducking 5 round fights as a ‘top 5’ fighter because he knows he can’t do them is just crazy!

Muslim prospects are where the money is at. Dana knows this. Why are others surprised by it?

Alhumdulillah, timestamped:

How many fights are on his contract? That is the real question and the only question that matters. If he's only got one more fight it really, really pays to fight for 12/12 or whatever and then have the power of free agency to work with.

But fighters and managers are too fucking stupid and rush to renegotiate into a contract that could tie down someone who could be a superstar for 6-9 fights. That's basically throwing away multiple millions away if he lives up to the hype sherbros are throwing on him.

He needs to fight out his contract, no matter how shitty it is, then fight for a new high pay contract FOR NO MORE THAN 4 FIGHTS, securing his freedom to make even more money after 4 fights.

God damn fighters need to control their contracts into slavery. And their managers need to wise up.

The world has the attention span of a cocaine laced squirrel. He has to move while the media is still talking about the guy. Worked with McMidget why not someone else.

He has Ali as manager right? Ali's been successful by having his fighters get paid less but go for titles. Don't think a new contract will go that huge(100/100 max, guessing around 60/60) because of that preference and the fact he's still untested at higher levels.

He's also fighting a lot right now, and I'm sure Dana wants to keep him on lower pay to encourage him to go for the bonuses.

Khamzat is legit. Dana paid a lot of money for Sage Northcutt. He didn’t work out.
